Fenway Park has been home to the Boston Red Sox since 1912. Since then, no visiting team had ever hit three home runs in the first inning.
Until Monday.
Leadoff hitter, Zach Neto, fouled off the first two pitches he saw. The next two pitches were outside the strike zone, evening the count at 2-2. Then Neto sent a hanging slider over the Green Monster.
After a walk, single and error, Mike Trout stepped up to the plate with two on and the score 2-0. He took the first pitch for a ball then fouled off a 95 mph fastball. The next two pitches were off the plate and called balls, putting the count in his favor, 3-1. Trout then got a 95 mph right down the pipe and sent it over the Green Monster 454 feet.
After Logan O’Hoppe lined out, Jo Adell entered the batter’s box and sent the first pitch he saw, a low fastball over the Green Monster 404 feet.
Adell hit another solo shot in the sixth inning, which was important because the Angels ended up winning by only one run, 7-6.
