After a busy weekend, Major League Baseball rolls into a new week with six games on Monday night’s schedule. SP Dustin May, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets, $8,000
The cheap options on the mound on Monday are a pretty questionable group overall, but May has a lot of upside at $8,000 in the midrange. He’s not as much of a bargain as I normally like to highlight in this post, but he does bring a very high ceiling and is a solid SP2 to pair with your top play of choice.
May has cranked up his strikeout production lately with 25 strikeouts in 16 innings over his last three starts. He had a season-high nine strikeouts in his last start, which was against the Guardians last Tuesday. After finishing that game with 23.7 fantasy points, he has over 20 fantasy points in four of his 10 starts this season. He got the win to improve to 3-4 on the year with a 4.20 ERA, 3.92 FIP, 1.24 WHIP and 9.4 K/9.
The increased strikeouts give May a high ceiling against the Mets, even though he has been allowing more runs than ideal. He has been better at home this season, with a 2.96 ERA and 2.79 xFIP at Dodger Stadium. If he can keep his strikeout numbers high, he will have a good shot to overcome the tough matchup against the Mets and compensate for any runs he does allow on Monday night in the big NLCS rematch with New York.
1B/2B Colt Keith, Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox, $3,000
I highlighted Keith in my bargain plays last Friday, and he continues to be very underpriced given his current form, favorable matchup and useful multi-category eligibility. For the second straight season, Keith started the season slowly but is coming around. He has hit safely in eight straight games and 12 of his last 14. In those 14 games, he’s hitting a solid .288 with a .322 wOBA and has more extra-base hits (8) than singles (7). Since May 1, he has a 41.5% hard-hit rate and 10.8% barrel rate, which are each vast improvements over his numbers from before May 1.
Keith and the Tigers continue their road trip with a second straight road series against a divisional opponent. They won two of three games in Kansas City and now get four against the White Sox, starting Monday night when they’ll face Jonathan Cannon ($6,800). Cannon has a 4.15 ERA and 4.36 FIP this season, and he has let lefties like Keith hit .278 with a .343 wOBA and four of the eight homers he has allowed this season. Keith has gone 4-for-7 against Cannon in their previous meetings with a home run.
OF Denzel Clarke, Athletics vs. Minnesota Twins, $2,200
Clarke got plenty of attention over the weekend for his spiderman-style home run robbery against the Blue Jays. In case you missed it:

He did more than just take home runs away this weekend, though, hitting his first MLB home run on Saturday for 16 fantasy points and swiping two bases on Sunday for 15 fantasy points. Clarke brings both power and speed potential as he takes over as the Athletics’ primary centerfielder.
Before his promotion just over a week ago, Clarke hit .286 in his 133 plate appearances in Triple-A this season without a home run but with 21 RBIs, 25 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a 17.3% walk rate. He had 12+ homers in each of the last three seasons and had 36 stolen bases last year in Double-A for the Midland RockHounds. Clarke has 18 strikeouts in just nine games and has a lot of swing-and-miss in his profile. However, his big scoring events with homers and stolen bases are good enough to make him a very strong option at this price point as the Athletics come home to hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park this Monday.
