It is a quiet night of MLB action with just seven games across today’s Monday slate. The action will open up at 6:40 p.m. ET in a matchup between the Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins. Games will be spread out across the rest of the night, building out to a final matchup between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers beginning at 10:10 p.m. ET. This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action, 6/2/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on the MLB slate.
Rafael Devers More Than 0.5 Home Runs
It may not have been the smoothest transition into the season for Rafael Devers, but the 28-year-old is showing why the organization invested $313.5 million into him to keep him in Boston until 2033. With some eyebrow-raising quotes and early-season struggles behind him, Devers is back to producing like the star he is. Across May, he put up a 1.141 OPS with overall slash lines of .286/.408/.515 and 12 home runs in 277 plate appearances.
Tyler Anderson will be on the mound for the Angels tonight. While the lefty-on-lefty matchup is not traditionally a great sign, Devers has posted a .325 batting average with three home runs against lefties already this season. In addition, Anderson has been worse against left-handed hitters this year. Lefties are posting a .389 wOBA with 2.81 home runs per nine innings compared to .270 wOBA and 1.2 home runs per nine innings to right-handers. Devers has faced Anderson in seven at-bats in their careers. The Red Sox slugger has tallied three hits with one home run already.
Anderson has allowed four home runs over his past three starts and eight over his past seven starts. With the Red Sox returning to Boston after a six-game road trip and a favorable pitching matchup, look for Devers to put one over the fence again tonight.
Christian Yelich More Than 1.5 Total Bases
Christian Yelich has been absolutely red-hot as of late, but this stretch was interrupted after being hit by a pitch in the first inning of yesterday’s game. The Brewers’ star left the game with a hand injury, but X-rays returned negative, and he is not expected to miss time. He is officially listed as day-to-day, so monitor his status, but this is a matchup where he will be able to add to an impressive stretch if he is in the lineup today.
Before yesterday’s exit, Yelich tallied three home runs in the past five games, including a walk-off grand slam and two home runs on May 30. Brady Singer will be on the mound for the Reds, posting a 4.60 ERA and allowing a 10.7% barrel rate this season. He is allowing 1.62 home runs per nine innings to left-handed hitters compared to 0.36 home runs per nine innings against righties. In addition, Yelich has tallied 11 of his 12 home runs against righties. It is a home run-friendly park at Great American Ball Park, and Yelich has a real chance of going yard again.
Rather than backing Yelich to hit a home run, I am going a bit safer with more than 1.5 total bases. Excluding yesterday’s early exit, Yelich tallied more than 1.5 total bases in six of his past eight games. If he is kept out of the lineup, keep an eye on another Brewers lefty, but look for Yelich to pick up right where he left off before yesterday’s early exit.
Elly De La Cruz More Than 0.5 Home Runs
The self-proclaimed most exciting player in baseball is heating up. After a bit of a slow start to the season, Elly De La Cruz is back on track. On the season overall, he is posting slash lines of .258/.331/.455 with 12 home runs in 260 plate appearances. He has three home runs in his last five games and will be playing in the most home run-friendly venue in the MLB. De La Cruz has a .869 OPS when playing at Great American Ball Park in his career.
Aaron Civale will be getting the start for the Brewers, allowing eight earned runs in just 12 innings pitched so far this season. He is allowing a .419 wOBA against lefties this season. De La Cruz has hit better against right-handed pitching this year, including a .532 slugging percentage compared to .299 against lefties. The Reds’ star is heating up and has a favorable matchup tonight. I like his chances of launching his fourth home run in the past six games.
Jonathan Cannon More Than 4.5 Strikeouts
Jonathan Cannon will be on the mound for the White Sox today as they face the Detroit Tigers. The 24-year-old is posting a 4.15 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 60.2 innings pitched this season. Cannon has tallied more than 4.5 strikeouts in three of his last six starts and five of his 11 starts on the year.
Even more intriguing, the Tigers have had some significant strikeout issues. They rank fourth in the MLB in strikeouts on the season and have struck out on 27.7% of their plate appearances over the past 14 days. This is the worst mark in the MLB. Cannon has gone at least 5.0 innings in seven straight starts, with this being the most appealing potential strikeout matchup across this stretch. Look for him to continue his solid stretch with more than 4.5 strikeouts tonight in this favorable matchup.
Riley Greene More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
One matchup I don’t particularly like for Jonathan Cannon on the mound is Riley Greene. The All-Star outfielder is coming off a strong May, which improved his overall hitting splits to .271/.325/.502 with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs in 241 plate appearances. He is posting an impressive 18.1% barrel rate and 124 wRC+.
Greene has performed better against right-handed pitching this season. He is posting a .304 batting average with 12 of his 13 home runs coming against righties. Cannon has been worse against left-handed batters, allowing a .343 wOBA and 1.28 home runs per nine innings. Greene has six RBIs over his past six games and has hit a home run as recently as Friday. Whether he is putting one over the fence himself or driving one in the gap to score a run, Greene is my preferred target in this Tigers lineup. Look for him to stay hot and add to his 40 RBI total tonight.
Byron Buxton More Than 1.5 Total Bases
In the late portion of tonight’s MLB slate, the Minnesota Twins will face the Athletics. Luis Severino will be on the mound, who has struggled of late. The two-time All-Star is posting a 3.89 ERA overall and has given up 4+ hits in nine of his 12 starts. Over his past five starts, Severino has allowed 28 hits and 15 earned runs in 28.0 innings pitched.
Byron Buxton is coming off back-to-back great starts since returning from injury. The 31-year-old has tallied consecutive games with a pair of hits with three RBIs in this stretch. Buxton is batting .314 on the season and has one home run across his four at-bats against Severino in their careers. These feel like two players trending in opposite directions, and I like Buxton’s chances of recording more than 1.5 total bases for the third straight game.
