Heading into the weekend Ben Griffin ($7,800; 103.5 FPTS) and Nick Taylor ($6,500; 91.5 FPTS), were atop the leaderboard. In the $800K Summer Sand Trap tournament, Griffin was rostered on 6.92% of teams while Taylor was on 3%.
DraftKings Sportsbook had Griffin at +400 to win it all and -550 to finish top 10. Taylor was +600 to win it all and -400 to finish top 10. Those top 10 tickets are good, as Griffin finished second while Taylor finished fourth.
On Saturday, Griffin went even-par (72). On Sunday, he went +1 (73). Griffin bogeyed the first hole of the day, got it right back with a birdie on the next hole, but racked up a bogey and another birdie. On the back nine, Griffin had two straight bogeys before notching an eagle, birdie and double-bogey to close out the round. He finished -6 for the tournament.
Taylor went 69 and 68 during the first two rounds of the tournament. The weekend was a different story. On Saturday, he shot a +2 (74). On Sunday, he went +1 (73) and finished -4 for the tournament. Like Griffin, Taylor bogeyed the first hole of the round. He closed out the front nine with three birdies and a bogey. He bogeyed the first hole of the back nine then racked up a double-bogey on Hole 14. He was able to get a stroke back with a birdie on Hole 17.
The most rostered golfer was Scottie Scheffler ($13,300; 52 FPTS) at a whopping 42.24%. Scheffler was also the favorite to win following each round. After the first round, Scheffler was +240. After Friday, he was +175. Every win ticket cashed as he finished -10 for the tournament, four strokes better than the field.
Scheffler went -2 (70) on both Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, he had an unblemished round with four birdies to finish -4 (68). For the final round, he reverted back to his -2 (70) ways. It was a fairly uneventful Sunday, with one birdie on the front nine and two birdies with a bogey on the back nine.
Scheffler now has 16 career PGA Tour wins in 142 events played. He’s missed the cut only 19 times and finished top five 51 times.
