MLB Prop Bets for Thursday, May 29, 2025
Shane Baz over 2.5 earned runs allowed +110
After an exceptionally strong start to the season, Baz has significantly declined in May. In 25.1 innings, he’s posted a 7.82 ERA and a .436 wOBA, allowing seven of his 10 season-long home runs. Worse still, he’s faced opponents of relatively weak quality. He’s allowed that offense against the Blue Jays (twice), Marlins, Phillies, and Royals. Tonight, he’ll face the Astros, who have averaged five runs per game over their last 10 games. The Astros’ expected lineup has performed strongly against the four-seam fastball, Baz’s primary pitch thrown 51% of the time. I expect the Astros to continue his struggles seen in May starts.
Washington Nationals -0.5 run line through first five innings +110
The Nationals are underdogs tonight, and I’m perplexed by it. MacKenzie Gore has been on a different level this season, striking out nearly everyone in his path. After posting a career-high 9.9 K/9 in 2023, Gore currently boasts a 13.4 K/9 through 62.1 innings. That pairs well with his 3.47 ERA and 3.51 xERA. The Mariners swing freely and strike out often, which makes me confident in Gore through the first five innings. They can hit fastballs well, but Gore’s other main pitches—a curveball and slider—have been nearly unhittable.
Emerson Hancock is not someone I believe can hold this Nationals offense back. Granted, their overall offensive numbers are poor, but Hancock is finding little success with any of his pitches. Opposing hitters have at least a .336 wOBA against his three main pitches. Putting this together, I think the Nationals will lead at the end of the fifth inning.
Shea Langeliers 2+ total bases +110
Even on a small slate, I doubt Langeliers was someone you considered targeting in the player prop market. He’s an excellent sinkerball hitter, which is why I’m backing him to record at least two total bases tonight. Since last season, Langeliers has a .362 wOBA and a .216 ISO through 96 plate appearances against this pitch. He’s facing Jose Berrios, who has thrown sinkers 31% of the time this season.
