Ben Griffin (-7) leads the way after the first round of the 2025 Memorial Tournament with a two-shot lead. It was a special round for Griffin, especially when you factor in his two bogeys. It’s hard to imagine him keeping this pace, as the winning score in 2024 was (-8).
Now it’s time to regroup after the first round and take a look at what DraftKings Sportsbook has to offer with three rounds in this tournament remaining.
Scottie Scheffler Group A Winner (-125)
This bet is available under the “Tournament Groups” tab. There are five golfers in each group, and Scheffler (-2) is in Group A along with Collin Morikawa (-5), Patrick Cantlay (E), Xander Schauffele (+1) and Justin Thomas (+8).
For this bet to hit, Scottie just simply has to finish higher than every other golfer in the group. The reigning champion only trails Collin Morikawa in the group, who happened to be last year’s runner-up to Scheffler. Morikawa offers fierce competition, but I still like Scheffler to win it at close to even odds.
Scottie did not putt well on Thursday, and the flat stick is one of the two reasons he only shot a 70. The other? Scheffler only managed to hit six fairways. He is usually very reliable off the tee, ranking second on the PGA TOUR this season, so expect that aspect of his game to improve as the week goes on.
He ranked 37th in the field in SG putting and 25th SG off the tee, compared to 9th SG around the green, 13th SG Approach and 7th SG total. If Scheffler can get his putter hot and his driver straightened up, I could easily see him winning not only this group but the entire tournament.
He finished his first round with four birdies and two bogeys.
Scheffler is also still the betting favorite to win it all at +240 after round one. This is what he had to say to the media after the round:
“I felt like I scored pretty well. If I want to keep doing that, I’ll have to be a little sharper the next few days, but overall, a good job posting a score. Yeah, 2-under on this place any day is pretty good.”
