Tampa Bay Rays vs. Minnesota Twins prediction, pick for Monday 5/26/25

The Tampa Bay Rays host the Minnesota Twins for the first game of their three-game series tonight, and this one feels tightly poised. Despite their recent dominance, the Rays remain an underwhelming 26-26, while the Twins—at 29-23—have quietly caught fire. However, even with the Twins’ strong pitching, they simply haven’t been able to crack the code at George M. Steinbrenner Field, where the Rays are riding high off a five-game win streak. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Rays and the Twins.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Rays vs. Twins prediction, preview

Let’s start with the pitching matchups. Zack Littell (3-5, 4.25 ERA) has found his rhythm, stringing together five straight quality starts. His WHIP (1.15) and solid strikeout rate (5.8 K/9) suggest that he’s not giving up much, and his recent form makes him a reliable anchor for a Rays staff that has posted a respectable 3.69 team ERA. In contrast, the Twins’ Chris Paddack (2-4, 3.98 ERA) may have a better ERA, but his splits paint a different picture. Paddack has struggled on the road, where his ERA jumps to 4.97, and while he’s been decent lately, the lack of consistent run support (just 3-7 in his starts) is a major concern.

Offensively, the Rays’ bats are heating up. Brandon Lowe (.361 avg, five HR, nine RBIs in his last 10 games) has been hitting everything in sight, while Junior Caminero has added a spark, posting a .316 average with multiple extra-base hits over his past five games. Meanwhile, Yandy Díaz (29 RBIs) continues to be a steady run producer. Though the Rays rank just 20th in runs per game (4.08), they’re a threat due to their base-stealing prowess, leading MLB with 71 steals—an aspect that can exploit Paddack’s occasional lapses in command.

On the other hand, Minnesota’s offense is struggling to click. Ranked 21st in runs per game (4.04) and 20th in batting average (.239), they’re heavily reliant on sporadic power from Trevor Larnach and Ty France, with little consistency from the rest of the lineup. Without Byron Buxton in the lineup, this offense looks even thinner, and with Littell’s ability to minimize damage, the Twins will need to rely on their pitching to keep things close.

Twins vs. Rays pick, best bet

When it comes to the betting picture, the Rays have been reliable at home, going 5-1 in their last six games at Steinbrenner Field. The Twins, however, are 0-5 in their last five road games against Tampa Bay. With Littell on a roll and the Rays’ bullpen coming off a stretch of limiting opponents to just six runs over the past five games, I like Tampa Bay to continue their winning ways.

Looking at the total, it’s set at 9.0 runs. Both teams have been trending toward the under, with Tampa Bay going under in six of their last eight games. The pitching has been solid, and neither offense is exactly explosive right now—particularly with Minnesota’s cold stretch. Combine that with favorable pitching weather, and the under seems like the safer play.

The Rays’ defensive reliability and solid pitching from Littell should keep the game low-scoring, while their offense, though steady, won’t carry the game to double-digit runs. With the under hitting consistently for both teams, and the pitchers limiting damage, expect a tense, lower-scoring affair tonight.

Best bet: Rays vs. Twins u9.0 runs (-120)
