Caitlin Clark quickly became a face of the WNBA during her rookie campaign and has stepped her game up another notch to begin her second season. Unfortunately, the superstar guard will now miss some time due to an injury.
Per the Indiana Fever, Clark suffered a left quadriceps strain and will spend a minimum of at least two weeks on the sideline.
The Iowa product took the league by storm last year, but now in her sophomore WNBA season, she looks like a legitimate early contender for MVP. Over the first four games of the young campaign, Clark nearly averages a double-double with 19.0 points and 9.3 assists per contest. She’s also tacking on 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 combined stocks per game, a testament to her all-around impact.
With a 2-2 record, the Fever must work to weather the storm without their superstar talent for the next couple of weeks. Ideally, Clark’s return comes at the end of this initial timeline, but soft tissue injuries can be tricky.
Regardless, watch for veteran Kelsey Mitchell to assume a greater role in the backcourt in the meantime. The two-time All-Star averages nearly 18 points per game to open the season, but must step up as a playmaker. Aliyah Boston could be another beneficiary in Clark’s absence — she already averages a double-double, but greater shot volume could tick her production up even higher as she solidifies her place as a star in the WNBA.
