All 30 MLB teams will be in action today across the 15-game slate of matchups. The Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers kicked off the day with an 11:35 ET first pitch. There is action all across the afternoon, building out to a Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the two largest payrolls in the league as the Mets and Dodgers complete the rubber match of their series. This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action, 5/25/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on the MLB slate.
Salvador Perez More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
Salvador Perez has been red-hot at the plate and will carry this into the third matchup against the Twins today. He is coming off a few days of rest, but has produced a .445 batting average, 1.000 slugging percentage, and 1.600 OPS over his past nine at-bats. Perez tallied a three-hit performance in his last game played which included a double and a home run.
Bailey Ober will take the mound for the Twins today, whom Perez has had success against. Across the 24 plate appearances the two have faced off, the Royals’ catcher and first baseman has two home runs and a .727 slugging percentage. Ober has a 3.68 ERA on the season and has allowed at least one earned run in all 10 starts. He has also allowed six home runs already this year.
Perez has 23 RBIs on the season and tallied 104 last year. Expect him to be a bit refreshed following the three days off, and take advantage of this matchup he has had success against. Perez is swinging the bat well, and I like his chances of adding to his RBI total today.
Julio Rodriguez More Than 1.5 Total Bases
Julio Rodriguez burst onto the scene as the 2022 American League Rookie of the Year and is shaping into one of the brightest young stars in baseball. The two-time MLB All-Star has reached base safely in 10 consecutive games and driven in 12 runs during this span. Rodriguez is posting a .721 OPS on the season with nine home runs and 29 RBIs across his first 49 games.
The Mariners are facing left-hander Colton Gordon today in just the third start of his MLB career. It has been a rude awakening in the Big Show with Gordon already allowing two home runs and six extra base hits in his first 9 and 2/3 innings pitched. Daiken Park has a short left field, which plays to Rodruguez’s strength as a right-handed hitter, and a home run is very much a possibility today. He has tallied more than 1.5 total bases in three of his past four games and look for him to build off this against the unseasoned pitching matchup today.
Brent Rooker More Than 0.5 RBIs
The Athletics are on an 11-game losing skid and will be looking to stop the Phillies from their third consecutive series sweep. Offense has been a problem for the Athletics this season, but Brent Rooker has been a bright spot. So far this season, he is slashing .245/.311/.452 with a team-high 12 home runs. This includes a home run and a pair of RBIs in last night’s extra-inning loss.
Jesus Luzardo will be on the mound for the Phillies, who has gotten off to an excellent start to the season. But Rooker hits better against left-handed pitching, slashing .333/.409/.795 with a 1.204 OPS this season. He already has 21 extra-base hits and has tallied an RBI in three of his past six games. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 70s wth the wind blowing out today. Look for Rooker to continue pulling his weight within this Athletics’ offense and take advantage of the favorable left-handed pitching matchup by knocking in an RBI today.
Gunnar Hoglund More Than 5.5 Hits Against
Set to make the fourth start of his MLB career, Gunnar Hoglund is seeing some early struggles. Through his first 21.1 innings pitched, he has allowed 24 hits and 12 earned runs. He has allowed at least five hits in all four starts, tallying more than 5.5 hits allowed in three of these. Hoglund has conceded nine earned runs and five home runs in his past two starts.
These are some concerning trends as he prepares to face a red-hot Phillies offense. They tagged Jeffrey Springs for two runs in the first inning yesterday and finished with 10 hits in the victory. Across their past 19 games, the Phillies are averaging 9.95 hits per game and have tallied 10+ in five of their last nine. Philadelphia has been less reliant on the home run ball this season, with this resulting in some more consistent outputs of hits. Look for Hoglund’s early struggles to continue and for the Phillies to tally more than 5.5 hits against the young pitcher.
Taylor Ward More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
Few hitters in the MLB are seeing the ball better than Taylor Ward right now. The 31-year-old extended an Angels’ franchise record with 10 consecutive games with an extra base hit, and he has hit a home run in seven of his past 12 games. Ward is tied for fifth in the MLB with 15 home runs on the season, and 36 RBIs already on the year.
The Angels will be facing the Marlins today with Edward Cabrera on the mound. Cabrera has allowed a home run in six of his seven starts this year and is posting a 5.50 ERA overall. He has allowed 37 hits in 34.1 innings pitched and has allowed at least three hits in every outing. This will be Ward’s first time facing Cabrera in their careers, but I like his chances of extending his extra-base hit streak and picking up an RBI in the process. It will be good hitting weather out in Anaheim today. While Ward has a real chance of adding to his home run total, I am opting for the RBI for this selection.
Max Muncy More Than 0.5 Total Bases
It has not been a great start to the season for Max Muncy, but he has an accomplished track record for who he is as a hitter and is beginning to get back on track. So far, he is slashing just .206/.330/.329 on the season with just 32 hits and three home runs across his first 155 at-bats. Muncy has had much more success against right-handed pitching, producing a .772 OPS against righties compared to .302 against left-handed pitching. He also tallied a .891 OPS against righties last year.
He will have this to his advantage tonight with Kodai Senga pitching for the Mets. Muncy has fared well in this matchup in his career with one hit and two walks in the six plate appearances. Senga has gotten off to a dominant start to the season, but allowed a season-high three earned runs in his previous start. Muncy has tallied a hit in 10 of his past 14 games, and Senga will not be able to pitch around him with so much talent in this Dodgers’ lineup. Look for him to continue getting back on track for the season and record a hit again tonight.
