It’s been quite the week for Juan Soto. Last weekend’s Subway Series was a dud for the former Yankees slugger, who went one-for-ten at the plate. Now, the superstar’s lack of hustle has begun to generate headlines in New York. Still, the Dominican remains one of baseball’s greatest hitters. What should we expect tonight against the defending World Series champions?
The Mets enter as favorites (-120) vs. the Dodgers tonight, with the over/under set at 8.5 runs (-102). Before the start of Saturday’s much-anticipated showdown, here’s my favorite Juan Soto player prop bet on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Juan Soto O 0.5 runs (-120)
Tonight’s matchup comes fresh off of the heels of Friday’s 7-5 Dodgers win in overtime. Soto was a massive dud, failing to record a hit in five at-bats. A lengthy rain delay likely didn’t help, but that’s still no excuse for such a poor performance. It’s been a true struggle for the former All-Star recently; since May 1st, Soto is hitting .229 at the plate.
The one silver lining for Soto is that he’s still finding ways to get on base. The outfielder has notched a stellar .374 on-base percentage over the past month. As bad as he’s looked, the newest Mets star will likely turn things around sooner rather than later. Perhaps he’ll get going tonight against a familiar foe.
Los Angeles will hand the ball to Tony Gonsolin, making his fifth start of the season. So far, the right-hander has accounted for a respectable 4.05 ERA. However, that mark is far more impressive than his 1.30 WHIP. Soto is familiar with the former All-Star, facing him several times as a member of the Padres. Against the former All-Star, he’s compiled three hits over 11 career at-bats (.273 BA).
Those numbers don’t mean much, but Soto is one of the few Mets with history against tonight’s starter. Gonsolin owns a career-worst 4.1 BB/9 ratio; New York’s hitters should opt for patience at the plate. That’s no problem for Soto, who has recorded the most walks in baseball since 2022 (435). If his Mets teammates go with a similar approach, there should be plenty of scoring in this one.
