MLB Prop Bets for Friday, May 23, 2025
New York Mets over 4.5 runs +114
Clayton Kershaw is making his second start of the season, and I expect we’ll see a performance similar to his debut. Against the Angels, Kershaw allowed five runs on five hits, including a home run, in four innings. The Mets hit left-handed pitchers well, and I think they’ll get to Kershaw early. In these matchups, the Mets have a combined .325 wOBA, a 110 wRC+, and a 10.8% walk rate. Once Kershaw exits, the Mets will face a struggling Dodgers bullpen. Over the past week, the bullpen has posted a 6.00 ERA, a 5.71 FIP, and a 2.6 HR/9 across 27 innings. I believe the Mets could exceed their team total and win this game outright, with current odds at -105.
Nolan Schanuel 2+ total bases +160
The Angels’ offense has been on fire lately, averaging 7.4 runs over their last five games. They’re coming off back-to-back games against the Athletics, where they scored 10 runs in each. Tonight, they face Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara, who is posting poor numbers. He has a 7.99 ERA, a 5.31 xERA, and a 5.35 FIP. Left-handed batters have been one of his biggest issues, hitting him for a .366 wOBA and five of the seven home runs he’s allowed. Nolan Schanuel isn’t typically known for extra-base hits, but Alcantara’s struggles against lefties make him a standout candidate.
Zac Gallen under 17.5 outs recorded +110
I believe this is a tough matchup for Zac Gallen against the Cardinals. Gallen has been far from the rock-solid starter the Diamondbacks have become accustomed to, posting a 5.14 ERA, a 4.16 xERA, and a 4.68 FIP. He’s struggling with his command (4.08 BB/9) and inducing the lowest swing-and-miss rate since 2021. The Cardinals excel against the four-seam fastball, a pitch Gallen throws 49% of the time. Tonight’s expected lineup has a .343 wOBA, a .148 ISO, and a 12.4% walk rate. If the Cardinals continue to work the count, Gallen’s pitch count could rise quickly. I predict he exits before completing six innings.
