DraftKings Fantasy Golf Picks: Charles Schwab Challenge Predictions, Preview

The PGA TOUR heads to Fort Worth, Texas this week for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Colonial Country Club will be the host, and measures as a 7,289-yard par 70 with Bentgrass greens.

Despite winning the PGA Championship last week, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be teeing it up in his home state, and will be looking for his third consecutive win overall. Joining him will be the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Daniel Berger, Hideki Matsuyama and Jordan Spieth.

Below, I have outlined three of my favorite DraftKings plays for the week.

Daniel Berger (9,900)

I don’t think you need me to tell you to play Scottie Scheffler this week. The man is on absolute fire right now, and despite costing $13,700 this is still not incredibly difficult to fit into lineups. Having said that, if you do decide to fade Scheffler for lineup construction reasons, Berger is my preferred option at the top of the board. He finished T33 last week at the PGA Championship, but that’s only because of an ice cold putter. Berger gained 4.4 strokes on approach and 4.3 more off-the-tee last week at Quail Hollow.

He’s in the midst of an absolutely incredible season, having posted nine top-25 finishes in 13 starts, including a T3 at the RBC Heritage and T2 at the WM Phoenix Open. Since the WMPO, which dates back 36 rounds, Berger ranks second in this field to only Scottie Scheffler in Total Strokes Gained. He also ranks third in both SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Ball-Striking in that time frame.

Overall, Berger’s history at Colonial is solid, with the exclamation point coming in 2020 when he won this tournament in the first PGA TOUR event post Covid. He went on to post a pair of top-23s in his next two starts here, before taking 2023 off due to injury and returning with a T45 last year. Berger is obviously a way better golfer than he was this time last season, and appears to be fully back to his pre-injury form.

If Scheffler struggles for whatever reason this week, Berger is very live to win this tournament for a second time, and is a slam dunk play at just $9,900.

Lucas Glover ($8,100)

After three poor starts in a row, Glover got back on track at the PGA Championship, posting a T37 and gaining 3.6 strokes on approach for the week. His putter also looked a little better at Quail Hollow, as he only lost 1.4 strokes on the greens, compared to going -5.8 and -.3.9 in his two prior starts.

Glover’s history at Colonial is also quite strong, having finished T23 or better in three of his past four starts, including a T8 in 2021 and T12 last year. Despite his recent struggles, if you take a long term view of Glover’s numbers you’ll find that he ranks eighth in this field in SG: Tee-to-Green, 10th in SG: Ball-Striking and 11th in Total Strokes Gained all over his past 48 rounds.

We are not expecting him to win in this spot, but a simple top-20 with some upside beyond that will do the trick at $8,100.

Emiliano Grillo ($7,400)

Grillo has finally been showing some form after an abysmal start to his season. The Argentine has made six of his past seven cuts with three top-25 finishes in that stretch. Most notably, he’s coming off a T20 at the Myrtle Beach Classic where he gained a whopping 9.6 strokes on approach. Before that, Grillo gained 3.1 on approach at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson and 2.1 at the Valero Texas Open. He’s absolutely dialed in with his irons right now.

Grillo’s short game is still very much a work-in progress, but he putts better on bentgrass compared to other surfaces and absolutely knows his way around Colonial. Sort of burying the lede here, Grillo won this event back in 2023 and has some of the best course history in the field. He’s played the Charles Schwab each of the past nine years, and has three top-eights (including the win) and a pair of top-24 finishes as well.

When you combine the history and the recent ball-striking numbers, this $7,400 price tag is too cheap.
