The Eastern Conference Final has arrived and begins tonight with a Game 1 matchup between the Hurricanes and Panthers. The Hurricanes are playing at home and are -125 favorites on the Moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at O/U 5.5 goals with Frederik Andersen and Sergei Bobrovsky starting between the pipes.

Hurricanes vs. Panthers Game 1 preview, analysis
This series is a weird one. The Hurricanes are disciplined and backed by elite goaltending, an expected recipe for success in beating the Panthers. They come into this series with revenge on their minds, too, having been swept in four games in this same spot two years ago. Andrei Svechnikov was sidelined in the 2023 series but has been Carolina’s primary goalscorer with eight goals this postseason. This postseason, Carolina ranks fifth in 5v5 goal percentage, fourth in power play percentage, first in penalty kill percentage and first in goals allowed per game. Additionally, they have a rest advantage tonight with the Panthers’ second-round series ending in seven games on Sunday.
We’ve heard all of this before with the Canes, though, right? They stick to their usual suffocating defensive play style coupled with elite goaltending from Andersen, and it usually works. But, the Jack Hughes-less Devils and overrated Capitals don’t come close to the Panthers in terms of competition. This has very similar vibes to 2023 where many touted the Canes’ ability to shut down the Panthers’ offensive attack, and we know how that ended.
The Panthers are in familiar territory and are defending Cup champions for a reason. Bobrovsky may not match Andersen’s current postseason metrics but he still sports an 8-2-0 record to go along with a .945 save percentage and 1.54 GAA in 10 career Eastern Conference Final games. This postseason, Florida ranks third in 5v5 goal percentage, second in penalty kill percentage and second in goals allowed per game. It converted just 4-of-23 power play opportunities against Toronto, and it won’t get easier against Carolina.
Hurricanes vs. Panthers Game 1 pick, prediction
These two teams met three times in the regular season, with Florida winning twice and outscoring Carolina, 13-to-6. All signs point to an up-and-down series for both teams but I feel that the home-ice advantage paired with the rest advantage is key for the Hurricanes tonight. They posted a 31-9-1 record at home during the regular season and a perfect 5-0-0 home record this postseason. 58% of the bets and 52% of the money is on Hurricanes Moneyline (-125) tonight, and I’ll be joining the public. I rarely bet against the Panthers (and still think they win the series) but tonight will likely be tight and low-scoring, and I’m giving the Canes the edge due to the additional rest.
