What are the five largest opening spreads in the 2025 NFL season?

Honorable Mentions:

There are five games with spreads of 9.5 that do not quite crack the largest opening spreads of the 2025 NFL season.

  • Chiefs -9.5 vs. Raiders on October 19 (Week 7)
  • Rams -9.5 vs. Saints on November 2nd (Week 9)
  • Chiefs -9.5 vs. Colts on November 23rd (Week 12)
  • Buccaneers -9.5 vs. Saints on December 7th (Week 14)
  • Bills -9.5 vs. Jets on January 4th (Week 18)

T3. Lions -10.5 vs. Browns on September 28 (Week 4)

The Detroit Lions are coming off a 15-2 season last year but were knocked out in the Divisional round of the playoffs. Both of their coordinators accepted head coaching opportunities, but most of the same core returns. The Week 4 matchup against the Cleveland Browns is tied for the third-largest spread of any opening line for the 2025 NFL season, with plenty of decisions needing to be made from Cleveland’s perspective before reaching this point.

The Lions hold the fifth-best odds to win the Super Bowl at +1000 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Detroit also holds +475 odds to win the NFC and are +140 favorites to win the NFC North.

T3. Eagles -10.5 vs. Giants on October 26 (Week 9)

Also tied for the third-largest spread across this 2025 NFL season, the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles will host the New York Giants as 10.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. This NFC East battle will hold some increased buzz following the quarterback upgrades made in New York, but Philadelphia kept its championship core intact and will hold the same aspirations this season.

The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the season as favorites to win the Super Bowl for the second straight season at +650 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. They also hold +310 odds of winning the NFC and are -140 favorites to win the NFC East.

T3. Eagles -10.5 vs. Raiders on December 14 (Week 15)

For the second time on this list, the Philadelphia Eagles will host the Las Vegas Raiders as 10.5-point favorites. These two teams last met in the 2021 season, where the Raiders won 33-22, but Philadelphia holds a 7-6 all-time record in these matchups. Las Vegas turned a page on last year’s 4-13 season by firing Antonio Pierce and making some notable changes. Pete Carroll has stepped in as head coach and has been reunited with Geno Smith as his quarterback, but this will be quite the measuring stick matchup.

Looking at Las Vegas’ futures’ props, they hold the sixth-best odds of finishing the season with the fewest wins at +1400 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. They hold +1900 odds of winning the AFC West and +6000 odds of winning the AFC.

2. Ravens -11.5 vs. Jets on November 23 (Week 12)

The Baltimore Ravens’ Week 12 matchup with the New York Jets will mark the second-largest spread of the 2025 NFL season. The addition of Derrick Henry last season took Baltimore’s offense to another level, and the franchise rewarded the star running back with a contract extension this offseason. New York made a full coaching and quarterback change following the failed Aaron Rodgers era, and they are one of the biggest mystery teams entering the season.

The Ravens are tied for the second-best odds to win the Super Bowl at +700 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. Baltimore also holds +350 odds of winning the AFC and is -145 favorites to win the AFC North.

1. Bills -12.5 vs. Saints on September 28 (Week 4)

The largest opening spread of the 2025 season is also the earliest game on this list. The Buffalo Bills will host the New Orleans Saints in a Week 4 matchup as 12.5-point favorites. Buffalo will also look at the postseason as their biggest goal after failing to beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs for the fourth time in the past five seasons. New Orleans will not be expected to provide nearly this level of resistance with uncertainty at their quarterback position.

The Bills are tied for the second-best odds of winning the Super Bowl at +700 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. Buffalo also holds +350 odds of winning the AFC and is -260 favorites to win the AFC East.

It is important to note that all of these betting lines and odds are subject to change as the season kicks off. The odds are likely to shift based on the level of play from teams and injuries occurring.

For reference, the largest spread across the 2024 season was set at 19.5 last season in a matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns on January 4th.
