The Wings had a tough season opener against the Lynx. Minnesota, who is coming off a WNBA Finals appearance, won 99-84 and spoiled Paige Bueckers’ debut.
Some struggle was bound to occur as Bueckers is just beginning her WNBA career. It’s even tougher against a stout defense and a team that nearly won the 2024 championship.
Dallas will get another chance to pick up an early-season victory. It will be at home again and will face the Storm, who are also 0-1.

Bueckers had an underwhelming debut, but that’s to be expected against the Lynx. Minnesota has one of the best defenses in the league, and there’s a target on Bueckers since she’s the incoming No. 1 overall pick.
She scored 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field, 0-of-2 from distance and 4-of-4 from the foul line. She had seven rebounds, two assists and one block in 30 minutes. There is plenty of work to be done, and Bueckers will bounce back. She’s proven to be an elite player at each level, so there isn’t any doubt that she’ll showcase it in the WNBA.
Her next outing will be against the Storm on Monday, May 19. It’ll be a chance for the top rookie to have a better performance in Dallas.
Seattle is favored, but this is still a good matchup. The Storm allowed 81 points against the Mercury, who are without Kahleah Copper.
While the Mercury should be better than the Wings this season, there is still room for Dallas to take advantage of Seattle’s defense. Arike Ogunbowale remains the top option for the Wings, which will give Bueckers some wiggle room against secondary defenders.
Even in a tough shooting game, Bueckers had 10 points. She’s going to get a similar amount of usage against Seattle, so it’s a good time to back the over on her points prop. It’s set at 13.5 and valued at +100 odds.
