The Boston Celtics were eliminated from the 2025 NBA Playoffs earlier this week, and on the heels of the season’s end, a new update on the health of one of their stars has emerged.
Per ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Brown spent the last few weeks playing through a partial meniscus tear and will be evaluated to determine whether surgery is necessary.
The four-time All-Star struggled through much of the season and missed multiple games in the campaign’s final month. It was reported Brown had received injections in his knee for pain management, and with this diagnosis, his inconsistency over the last month and a half makes much more sense.
Brown clearly wasn’t completely healthy during this postseason run, lacking some of his usual burst getting downhill. He averaged 22.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists across 11 playoff games while shooting just 44.1% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range.
Once superstar teammate Jayson Tatum went down with a torn Achilles in the Eastern Conference finals, the Celtics’ hopes of back-to-back titles took a significant nosedive. With Brown playing through this injury of his own, it’s not surprising the tea, eventually fell 3-2 to the New York Knicks.
