MLB Best Bets: Top Strikeout Prop Bets for Friday 5/16/25

By: Brendan O'Sullivan

After a quiet Thursday slate, all 30 teams will play on Friday, May 16. It’s the beginning of Rivalry Weekend in Major League Baseball, so there are multiple key matchups across the league.

Yankees vs. Mets, Astros vs. Rangers and White Sox vs. Cubs are just a few of the notable series headlining this weekend.

With so much action, there are a number of great starting pitchers to choose from for Friday’s strikeout prop bets.

Every day, you can bet on strikeout prop bets at DraftKings Sportsbook, and here are my two favorites from tonight’s games.

Best Pitcher Strikeout Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook

Nathan Eovaldi 7+ Strikeouts (+135)

Eovaldi has been one of MLB’s best pitchers in 2025, and he should have another strong performance tonight against the Astros.

The veteran right hander holds a 1.78 ERA and is the major league leader in strikeout/walk ratio. He’s walked just five batter in 55.2 innings while striking out 60.

Eovaldi typically pitches at least six innings and has thrown at least 87 pitches in all nine starts this season. Barring an implosion in the first couple innings, Eovaldi will remain in the game long enough to hit his strikeout total.

He’s recorded at least seven Ks in seven of nine starts and five straight outings. His Baseball Savant stats rank him in the 81st percentile for chase rate (32.3%), 75th percentile for whiff rate (29.1%) and 82nd percentile for strikeout rate (28.6%).

Eovaldi will also face the Astros who have a slightly below average chase rate and struck out seven times to Jacob deGrom yesterday.

Corbin Burnes Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-125)

It hasn’t been a fantastic start for Corbin Burnes in his first season with the Diamondbacks. The veteran right hander is struggling with command which has led to a career high in walks per nine (4.3).

As a result, his strikeouts are down, too. He’s only eclipsed 6.5 Ks twice in seven starts. Despite this, he still holds a 2.95 ERA and is coming off a seven-inning, zero-run outing against the Dodgers.

Burnes has been an All-Star in each of the past four seasons, and while he’s not his usual self to start 2025, he’s bound to get back to form. Perhaps the Dodgers’ game was an indicator that he’s on the right path, but tonight’s game against the Rockies should be very telling.

Colorado is just 7-36 and could make a run at the worst record in modern MLB history set by the White Sox last season. The Rockies are easily the worst team in baseball right now, but at least they have some life at home. Away games are a complete disaster for Colorado.

Tonight is an away game as the Diamondbacks host this three-game series. Here’s a breakdown of the Rockies’ home vs. away splits this season.

While Burnes hasn’t had the most impressive start to his 2025 campaign, tonight is a golden chance for a signature performance. Fade the Rockies, especially on the road in 2025.

Parlaying these props yields +323 value.
