With as much hype and momentum as the WNBA has ever had, they are kicking the season off the right way. Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will begin 2025 against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in one of the great budding rivalries in the league.
Clark has taken the league by storm and is coming off a successful Rookie of the Year campaign in which she averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds, helping to lead the Fever to a 20-20 overall record. The Fever re-tooled around their star, adding WNBA All-Star DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, Sydney Colson, Brianna Turner, and Sophie Cunningham in the offseason.
The Fever are 7.5-point favorites at home in the season opener and hold -340 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Sky hold +270 odds of pulling off the upset on the moneyline, and the game total is set at 168.5 points.

All the new key additions on this Fever team will change their outlook in a major way. Clark now has the bruisers to protect her from the increased physicality that was on full display, secondary options to raise the ceiling of this Fever offense, and defensive-minded players to complement her overall skillset. But the extended range from the perimeter that Clark possesses is still essential in making all this work.
Last season, the Rookie of the Year shot 34.4% from beyond the three-point arc while launching 8.9 perimeter shots per game. Clark averaged 3.1 three-point makes per game and made at least four triples in 14 contests. This includes two of the four matchups with the Sky.
It is a new season, with new players on both teams, but expect there still to be a rivalry feeling in the air. Clark will remain at the epicenter of the offense, and expect the new influx of talent surrounding her to make teams think twice about throwing such obvious double-teams in her direction. Clark leveraged this as a playmaker last season and led the WNBA with 8.4 assists per game. While her vision as a passer is an underrated facet of her game, she should see much better spacing across the board in general this year.
I am backing Clark to start the season off with a bang and connect with over 3.5 three-pointers in the 2025 WNBA opener, with the spacing brought on by her new teammates paving the way to easier shot opportunities. She has battled a bit of a quad injury to start the preseason, but Indiana has been overly cautious in their approach, and there are not expected to be any limitations now that the regular season is here.
