The Pimlico Oaks was renamed in 1952 to the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes to acknowledge the state flower of Maryland, and was given graded stakes status in 1973.
23 fillies that won The Black-Eyed Susan went on to be named a champion. A few of those fillies include Royal Delta, Silverbulletday and Serena’s Song.
Although it’s very early in their racing careers, this year’s crop doesn’t appear to have a filly who could potentially move forward to be a champion. Margie’s Intention is the Morning Line 3-1 lukewarm favorite, but I believe this race is wide open for the top spot.
