All 30 teams across Major League Baseball will take the field for 15 total games on Wednesday. With so many clubs playing, there’s plenty of enticing matchups for fans to dig into. After playing 11 innings on Tuesday, the division-leading Yankees and Mariners begin the rubber match of their three-game series. Later, the red-hot Royals attempt to bounce back after a walk-off home run from Isaac Paredes and the Astros last night. Tarik Skubal more than 7.5 strikeouts
Tarik Skubal has a legitimate claim as the best pitcher in baseball. After a tough first few weeks, the former All-Star has gotten into a groove. Over his last five starts, the 28-year-old has allowed four earned runs (1.16 ERA). Right now, the hurler is making a strong case to win his second straight American League Cy Young award.
Skubal will hope to continue his success tonight against an all-or-nothing Red Sox lineup. Boston has scored the sixth-most runs per game in baseball (4.91). However, they’ve also whiffed at the fourth-highest rate of any team on the road (9.58). Skubal has reached eight strikeouts in five of his seven appearances this season. There’s no reason to think that can’t continue against an offense that struggles outside of Fenway Park.
Nick Lodolo more than 5.5 strikeouts
Speaking of fireballers, Nick Lodolo is capable of reaching double-digit K’s on any given night. However, the left-hander is equally susceptible to poor command over the course of a game. It’s been a terrific start for the 27-year-old, owner of a 3.23 ERA and a phenomenal 1.01 WHIP. However, he’s still not immune from a letdown game, as seen on May 3rd vs. Washington (5.1 IP, 7 ER).
Fortunately for Lodolo and the Reds, Wednesday’s opponent stands little chance of scoring against most pitchers. The White Sox aren’t historically bad (as they were last season), but this is still an awful team. That’s especially true at the plate, where Chicago’s hitters have accounted for the seventh-most strikeouts per game (8.60). Entering tonight’s contest with some momentum, Lodolo has the potential to blank the South Siders.
Luis Robert Jr. less than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
We’ll stay in Ohio, where the White Sox are hoping to win their 14th game of the season. If anyone can be considered a ‘star’ on this roster, it’s Luis Robert Jr. Unfortunately for Chicago, he hasn’t looked like it thus far. Through 38 games played, the outfielder is slashing a ghastly .179/.284/.313 while driving in five homers and 16 RBIs. Those aren’t ideal numbers to have heading into a difficult matchup.
In the past, Lodolo has had difficulty against right-handers. However, hitters on that side of the plate have posted a .189 batting average against the pitcher in 2025. Robert Jr. has compiled just two hits over his last 17 at-bats (.125 BA). Even if the slugger manages to reach base once tonight, Chicago’s lineup is unlikely to generate many run-producing opportunities.
Patrick Corbin less than 2.5 earned runs allowed
The Rangers can’t hit, but they’ve remained competitive thanks to one of baseball’s elite pitching staffs. An early-season surprise has been Patrick Corbin. Following a disastrous tenure with the Nationals, it looks as though the veteran has returned to form in Texas. Through 31.2 innings pitched, the former All-Star has posted a 3.13 ERA. Most recently, he logged seven innings of two-run ball against a dangerous Tigers lineup.
The left-hander will have a much easier task tonigth when the Rangers host the Rockies. On the road, Colorado has posted 3.21 runs per game, the second-worst mark in baseball. Corbin, in each of his last five appearances, has failed to allow more than two earned runs. Against baseball’s worst team, there’s no reason to assume that streak can’t continue on Wednesday.
Kyle Hendricks less than 15.5 outs
A mediocre Los Angeles roster has needed to rely on several veterans in its rotation. That includes Kyle Hendricks, a former World Series champion with the Cubs. The 35-year-old is a long way removed from his prime, and it’s shown this season. Over seven starts, Hendricks owns a 5.30 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.
The soft-tossing veteran has given little reason for Angels fans to have confidence going forward. That’s especially true tonight against a terrific Padres lineup that has scored the 12th-most runs per game in baseball (4.66). Hendricks has pitched more than five innings only twice this season; that’s unlikely to change on Wednesday vs. San Diego.
Jackson Merrill more than 1.5 total bases
Speaking of the Padres, this offense is carried by a select group of stars. With all due respect to Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr., nobody has gotten off to a better start than Jackson Merrill. Over just 16 games, the outfielder has slashed .438/.464/.719 while slugging four homers and 17 RBIs. It’s a small sample size, but more than enough for Friars fans to get excited over.
San Diego’s budding superstar missed about a month of action due to a strained left hamstring. However, he’s been nothing short of spectacular since returning. Over his last six games, Merrill has recorded a .519 batting average while powering a home run and seven RBIs. On paper, a struggling Kyle Hendricks doesn’t look too intimidating on the mound. Expect another stellar showing from Merrill during tonight’s inter-league matchup.
