The New Orleans Saints looked like an early-season contender to start last season, but injuries quickly added up through the remainder of a relatively nightmarish campaign. By the season’s end, Chris Olave missed over half the year while Rashid Shaheed and Derek Carr sustained season-ending injuries — the latter of whom recently retired due to medical concerns. A 5-12 finish placed the Saints squarely in last among a weak NFC South, a rather merciful end.
The offseason brings hope, though, and there’s plenty in New Orleans. The team retained most key pieces and drafted a franchise tackle in Kelvin Banks Jr., as well as a potential franchise quarterback in Louisville product Tyler Shough. Most importantly, an all-new coaching staff led by Kellen Moore presents a major improvement compared to the previous regime. Will they be able to unlock Shough and send the Saints marching into the playoffs, or will they end up back in the top selections of the draft again?
