The Atlanta Falcons were the subject of much derision going into this past season. Not only did they hand a large contract to Kirk Cousins coming off a torn Achilles, but they seemingly reached on quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at the eighth overall pick. And now they are on the rise.
After Cousins suffered further injuries, Penix Jr. seemingly took the starting job for good, making several impressive throws and looking like a potential ceiling raiser for the offense. His strong offensive line gives him time to find breakout receiver Drake London, and Bijan Robinson is the goods in the backfield.
Despite a rough year, things are also looking up for the defense. Grady Jarrett is still a beast, and they boast a star safety tandem in Jessie Bates and Justin Simmons. At long last, pass rush help has arrived. The Falcons drafted Jalon Walker with the 15th overall pick and traded back into the first round to select James Pearce Jr. The young duo may finally solve their years-long pass rush woes.
