Tuesday offers a jam-packed 15-game set of MLB action. All 30 teams from across the league will take the field. That includes a battle between the Red Sox and the Tigers, owners of the American League’s best record. Later this evening, division leaders will meet in Seattle when the Mariners host the Yankees and starter Max Fried.

Kristian Campbell less than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
It was a Tuesday to forget in Beantown, as the Red Sox got blown out 14-2 vs. the Tigers. Boston has struggled to gain momentum for most of the season, as its 22-21 record shows. April standout Kristian Campbell has hit a wall, slashing .175/.250/.300 over his last ten contests. The rookie, one of the best prospects in baseball, still has a bright future ahead. However, a slump is inevitable for most first-year pros.
Getting going is difficult enough; doing so against tonight’s opponent is a whole different challenge. Tonight will be a bullpen game for the Tigers, with reliever Tyler Holton getting the start. This season, Detroit pitching has allowed 3.43 runs per game, the third-lowest mark in baseball. With multiple pitchers taking the mound, Campbell will bat against several different pitch types tonight. That’s a tough assignment for a hitter in the midst of his first slump in the majors.
Jonathan Aranda more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
For an otherwise mediocre Rays offense, Jonathan Aranda has been a pleasant surprise. The fourth-year pro has recorded a .342 batting average, five home runs and 18 RBIs; all of those marks lead Tampa Bay. There’s been no signs of slowing down for the 27-year-old, notching two three-hit games over his last four outings. It’s no surprise that the first baseman has earned an every day spot in Kevin Cash’s lineup.
Aranda, a lefty, has hit .374 against right-handed pitchers this season. Tonight’s hurler for the Blue Jays, Jose Berrios, has posted a respectable 3.86 ERA over 46.2 innings of work. However, Toronto’s arm has coughed up a .276 batting average against southpaw batters. Given how Aranda has been swinging, only an elite arm would make me consider fading Tampa’s newest star.
Matt Olson more than 0.5 home runs
After a nightmare start, the Braves are back near .500 at 20-21. It’s been a decent, albeit mildly disappointing, first few weeks for Matt Olson. Despite a good on-base percentage (.354), a .408 slugging percentage is a bit low. The first baseman has seen his numbers take a hit over the past month. Since May 1st, Olson is slashing .200/.298/.450 over 11 games played.
Fortunately for Atlanta’s bats, they’ll face off against a mediocre Nationals pitching staff tonight. Getting the nod for the visitors is former Braves hurler Mike Soroka. The injury-plagued veteran has made just two starts this season, putting up an early 7.20 ERA. That should excite Olson, a lefty that’s crushed six of his seven homers this season against right-handers. The slugger is poised for a vintage performance on Tuesday vs. Washington.
Kris Bubic less than 17.5 outs
Somehow, the Royals have an even deeper rotation this season, thanks to the emergence of Kris Bubic. Through eight starts, the lefty has accounted for a 1.69 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 47 strikeouts. Kansas City’s newest ace, injured for most of 2024, is making a push for his first career All-Star Game selection. During his last outing vs. the White Sox, Bubic went seven shutout innings while tossing seven strikeouts.
Tuesday’s matchup presents a significantly more dangerous lineup. Even without Yordan Alvarez (hand), the Astros are loaded with right-handed hitters. This season, Houston has the 11th-highest slugging percentage (.386) in baseball against left-handed pitchers; that’s bad news for Bubic. Kansas City’s southpaw is still capable of delivering a strong outing, but six innings could prove difficult tonight.
Max Fried more than 7.5 strikeouts
If the season were to end today, Max Fried would have secured the 2025 American League Cy Young award. The two-time All-Star was a force in Atlanta, but a move to New York this winter has led to even better results. For a Yankees team missing Gerrit Cole, the left-hander has been crucial to their early success. Through eight starts, Fried has accounted for a league-leading 1.05 ERA to go with a minuscule 0.91 WHIP.
Most lineups don’t stand a chance against a pitcher of this quality. That’s likely true for the Mariners, a group that often struggles to make contact at T-Mobile Park. This season, Seattle is striking out 8.56 per game at home, the fifth-highest mark in baseball. Fried isn’t a fireballer, but the veteran logs enough innings to rack up plenty of Ks. Against a weak group of M’s batters, it’s impossible to expect anything short of dominance.
Dylan Cease less than 7.5 strikeouts
After a brutal first few months, Dylan Cease finally looked like himself last Wednesday. The 29-year-old allowed just one earned run over 6.2 innings against the Yankees, punching out nine batters. Most impressively, the former All-Star went six frames without allowing a hit. Unfortunately for the Padres, a forearm cramp forced the right-hander’s departure in the seventh.
Cease didn’t suffer any long-term ailment last week, but it was still an injury scare. San Diego, a legitimate World Series contender, has every reason to play it safe with their star hurler. That’s especially true for what should be a Padres victory tonight in Los Angeles. The Angels are a train wreck, losing in 13 of their last 20 appearances. Even if Cease is dealing on Tuesday, manager Mike Shildt could pull the plug early. Even against LA’s mediocre bats, that would make it tough to reach eight strikeouts tonight.
