After Thursday’s first round of the Truist Championship, the field was looking up at Keith Mitchell ($7,400; 90 FPTS), who shot a 9-under round (61) and led by one stroke. After Friday, Mitchell maintained his one-stroke lead heading into the weekend after shooting a 3-under (67).
Mitchell bogeyed the second hole of the morning, but bounced right back with birdies on the next three holes. On the back nine, he racked up a bogey and two birdies.
In the $750K Sand Trap tournament, Mitchell is rostered on 9.49% of teams.
DraftKings Sportsbook had Mitchell at +800 to win it all, the third-lowest odds, after Thursday’s opening round. He is now the favorite at +320.
Collin Morikawa ($10,500; 61 FPTS) was the favorite after Thursday at +600. Morikawa shot a 7-under (63) and was only two strokes back of Mitchell, but he shot an even par (70) on Friday and is now five strokes back.
Friday began well for Morikawa with a birdie on the first hole, but then he went bogey, birdie, double-bogey and birdie to close out the front nine. The back nine was uneventful with a birdie and a bogey.
Morikawa is rostered on 18.92% of teams.
The most rostered golfer is Rory McIlroy ($12,000; 59 FPTS) at 34.59%.
McIlroy shot a 4-under (66) on Thursday. He came back with a 3-under (67) on Friday. On the front nine, he racked up two bogeys and four birdies. The back nine consisted of two birdies and a bogey.
McIlroy had the second-lowest odds to win it all at +750 after Thursday. He is now at +550, the third-lowest odds.
There are two other golfers rostered on at least 20% of teams:
Justin Thomas ($10,000; 59 FPTS) is at 24.42%. Thomas finished the first round 4-under (66). On Friday, he went 3-under (67) and is five strokes off the lead.
Thomas had a birdie and a bogey on the front nine. He birdied the first hole of the back nine then had a three-birdie streak on Holes 4, 5 and 6. Unfortunately, he closed out the round with a bogey on the second-to-last hole.
He was +2500 to win it all after Thursday. He is now at +1400, the sixth-lowest odds.
Xander Schauffele ($10,200; 38 FPTS) is at 20.54%. Schauffele went 3-under (67) on Thursday. He followed that up with a 1-under (69) on Friday. He bogeyed the first hole of the day then finished the front nine with a birdie and another bogey. On the back nine, he racked up three birdies before bogeying the second-to-last hole. Xander was +3500 to win it all after Thursday. He is now +7000.
Here are the golfers rostered on at least 10% of teams that had a rough two days:
Justin Rose ($7,600; 22.5 FPTS) is rostered on 10.25% of teams. He shot an even par 70 on Thursday and was nine strokes off the lead. He is now 19 strokes off the lead after Friday’s 7-over (77). Rose drained two birdies on the front nine but then racked up three straight bogeys. To close out the front nine, he added another bogey. It got worse on the back nine. After two bogeys sandwiched around a birdie, Rose closed out the round with a birdie, double-bogey, double-bogey and bogey.
Tom Hoge ($6,700; 24.5 FPTS) is rostered on 13.19% of teams. After shooting a 2-under (68) on Thursday, Hoge went 3-over (73) on Friday. He racked up two bogeys on the front nine and a birdie with two more bogeys on the back nine. He is 13 strokes off the lead.
