Athletics vs. New York Yankees prediction, pick for Friday 5/9/25

All eyes turn to Sutter Health for some offensive fireworks tonight! Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Friday night baseball game between the Athletics and the Yankees.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Athletics vs. Yankees prediction, preview

At the heart of the Yankees’ dominance is Aaron Judge, who’s been nothing short of a juggernaut, hitting .400 with 12 home runs and 34 RBIs. His presence alone makes any ballpark feel like a launching pad, and tonight’s hitter-friendly confines in Sacramento should only amplify his impact. Add to that Cody Bellinger’s hot bat and Trent Grisham’s ability to work counts, and this offense is one that can pile on runs in a hurry. With 62 home runs this season, leading the league, and a slugging percentage of .465, the Yankees are built to exploit the Sutter Health Park’s friendly dimensions, which elevate offensive output.

Will Warren takes the mound for New York, and despite a shaky 5.65 ERA, he brings a solid 9.3 K/9 rate. His recent struggles haven’t been enough to shake his confidence, and against an Athletics lineup that ranks 16th in runs scored (4.34/game), he should find room to breathe. While Warren’s hard-hit rate is concerning, the Athletics’ .253 team average against right-handed pitching offers little cause for worry. The Yankees’ bullpen, which sits in the top-10 in ERA (3.59), will provide solid relief if needed. Warren’s pitch mix—highlighted by a strong fastball and slider—should be effective against a team that struggles to generate consistent offense.

The Athletics, though competitive, face a tall order. Osvaldo Bido will look to keep the game in check, but his 4.71 ERA and 1.46 WHIP suggest the Yankees’ power hitters will feast. Bido’s flyball tendencies could be catastrophic in a park like this—where the ball flies and the fences are shallow. With the A’s bullpen ranking 25th in ERA (4.47) and their pitching staff allowing 5.00 runs per 9 innings, this game is set up for the Yankees to light up the scoreboard. Bido, who has allowed seven home runs in his last 21 innings, is the perfect target for a team like New York, which thrives on hitting for power.

Yankees vs. Athletics pick, best bet

The Athletics’ offense has been better than expected this season, ranking 15th in runs scored with 4.34 per game. Tyler Soderstrom, Brent Rooker, and JJ Bleday have provided power, but the A’s are still a boom-or-bust offense. They rank eigth in home runs with 47, but they’ve struggled to generate consistent offense against solid pitching. With the bullpen’s struggles (a 4.54 ERA), they’ll need to rely heavily on their starting pitchers to keep them in the game.

Yanks have won five of their last six games against the Athletics, including five straight on the road. The A’s have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five home games as underdogs against AL East teams. Oakland just generally stinks against teams with a winning record, posting a 1-5 record in their last six such matchups.

Bombers runline.

Best bet: Yankees -1.5 (+105) at Athletics
