MLB Prop Bets for Friday, May 9, 2025
Alex Bregman over 1.5 H/R/RBI -105
Bregman has been one of the Red Sox’s most consistent hitters this season. He has exceeded the 1.5 H/R/RBI total in 21 of his 38 games, a 55% success rate. Facing Royals starter Michael Lorenzen, Bregman has a strong matchup to reach 22 games. Lorenzen relies on contact to generate outs, with a K/9 of 7.7, below one strikeout per inning. Right-handed batters have hit well against him, posting a .352 wOBA, a 5.51 FIP, and a 2.1 HR/9. Lorenzen throws a high volume of pitches, primarily a four-seam fastball, changeup, and curveball. Bregman performs strongly against these pitches, with a wOBA of at least .365 against each.
Ben Rice over 1.5 total bases +105
This game is at Sutter Health Park, where the wind is blowing out. This favors Rice, who also benefits from a very short right-field wall. Rice faces Osvaldo Bido, who has struggled at this venue. At home, Bido has allowed a .409 wOBA, a 7.19 FIP, and a 2.8 HR/9. Since last season, Rice has excelled against four-seam fastballs, which Bido throws 40% of the time. Rice has a .362 wOBA and a .264 ISO against that pitch. Given the ballpark conditions and Bido’s splits in this matchup, Rice is likely to exceed 1.5 total bases.

Diamondbacks over 2.5 runs through first five innings -115
The Diamondbacks are a strong pick tonight against Roki Sasaki. He’s due for significant regression, with a 3.52 ERA but a 5.52 xERA. The matchup against the D-Backs is challenging, as their lineup excels against four-seam fastballs, which Sasaki throws 50% of the time. Since last season, their expected lineup has a combined .417 wOBA and .286 ISO against that pitch. Sasaki rarely pitches deep, having reached at least six innings in only one of his six starts. Thus, the first five innings likely cover his entire outing.
