It took an extra 24 hours, but after sustaining an injury in Wednesday’s start versus the Braves, Hunter Greene has now been officially place on the 15-day IL by the Reds.
It’s yet another unfortunate injury set-back for the former second-overall pick, who has seemed to be at the brink of a massive breakout each of the past two seasons. In 2025, Greene has been phenomenal across his first eight starts, maintaining a 2.36 ERA and a 2.45 xERA over 45.2 innings of work. Greene’s 34.7% strikeout rate is the second-highest qualified mark in MLB, while his 99.3 mph average fastball velocity is by far the highest of any starter in the league.
Greene currently has +600 odds to win the National League Cy Young on the DraftKings Sportsbook, which only trails Yoshinobu Yamamoto (+240) and Paul Skenes (+240). Unfortunately, the likelihood of missing four of five starts is now going to put him at a huge disadvantage against the rest of the field.
