The PGA TOUR heads to Flourtown, Pennsylvania this week for the Truist Championship. Philadelphia Cricket Club will be the host course, and measures as a 7,119-yard par 70 with Bentgrass greens.
We have another Signature Event on the docket, meaning a limited field and no cut. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is not in attendance this week, so Rory McIlroy is the betting favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook at +400, while Collin Morikawa (+1400) and Xander Schauffele (+1600) round out the top of the board.
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Daniel Berger to win (+4000)
Berger has been one of the most consistent golfers on the PGA TOUR this season. He’s finished T25 or better in eight of his 11 starts on the year, including a pair of top-three finishes at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and RBC Heritage.
Over his past 24 rounds in this field, which dates back to the Genesis Invitational in February, Berger ranks sixth in Total Strokes Gained. It hasn’t been one particular area where he’s triumphed, either, as he sits 23rd or better in that stretch in all of SG: Ball-Striking, SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Putting.
Berger just gained 7.2 strokes ball-striking at Harbour Town in his last start and looks to be well past the back injury that kept him out of action for a year and a half.
Philadelphia Cricket Club will require strong wedge play and putting, both of which Berger excels at. He sits 24th on the PGA TOUR this season (9th in this field) in proximity from 75-125 yards, which is better than guys like Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Victor Hovland, just to name a few.
If anyone was laying the groundwork towards a win, it would absolutely be Berger with the way he is trending right now. At 40/1, I am more than happy to chance him in this no-cut event.
Justin Rose to win (+6500)
Rose has turned back the clock so far in 2025, already posting three top-eight finishes at Pebble Beach, the Masters and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He actually finished T3 or better at the former two, including a heart-breaking playoff-loss to Rory McIlroy at Augusta.
Rose was tailor made for Philadelphia Cricket Club, as he’s always had success at tough northeastern tracks. This is a while ago already, but he won his only career major at the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Merion is a 7,000-yard par 70 that features Bentgrass greens, and sits just 30 minutes from the Philly Cricket Club.
In case you need further convincing, Rose then finished runner-up to Keegan Bradley at the 2018 BMW Championship at Aronimink Golf Club (7,200-yard par 70, Bentgrass greens) in Newtown Square, PA, which is also a stone’s throw from the PCC. It’s clear that the Englishman loves this style of golf.
Rose has shown a ridiculous ceiling in big time events this season, gaining 7.04 strokes on approach at the Masters, 4.1 at the API and 2.95 at Pebble. So even despite some of his poor finishes this year, he can clearly show up when he wants to.
Rose was runner-up at each of golf’s past two major championships, and feels very close to winning another big-time event. In a limited field, I really like getting 65/1 here.
