Many were surprised that the Cowboys did not address their wide receiver issues in the NFL draft last month. As currently constituted, their depth behind CeeDee Lamb is arguably the worst in all of pro football, with former third-round pick Jalen Tolbert and Panthers’ outcast Jonathan Mingo flanking the four-time Pro-Bowler.
Instead, Dallas chose to focus on the offensive line by selecting G Tyler Booker from Alabama with their first-round pick. Jerry Jones obviously had a method to his madness, because Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Cowboys are trading for Steelers WR George Pickens in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth rounder. Dallas will also receive a 2027 sixth-rounder in the deal.
Pickens has a ton of talent but was unable to put everything together during his three-year stint with the Steelers. You can largely attribute that to awful quarterback play, but he’s also been known to have a bit of an attitude problem, consistently butting heads with both his coaches and the media.
Regardless, Pickens is only 24 years old and just posted a season of 2.28 yards per route run in 2024, a number that ranked 20th in the NFL. He’s also been quite durable during his career as well, playing in 48 of a possible 51 games since 2022. With Dak Prescott under center and Lamb playing opposite him, Pickens will have every opportunity in the world to showcase his true ability in Dallas.
As it stands, his ADP in DraftKings Best Ball contests sits at 89.7, which is the middle of the eighth round. Expect that to rise significantly with this news over the coming weeks.
