SP Cristopher Sanchez, Philadelphia Phillies at Tampa Bay Rays, $7,500
I’m having a bit of a difficult time wrapping my head around Sanchez’s salary on Wednesday. Yes, we’re just two weeks removed from an injury scare and an underwhelming outing against the Mets with the LHP, but that night has been the lone blip in what has been an otherwise fantastic campaign for Sanchez. In 31.1 innings of work, Sanchez sports a 3.45 ERA and a 3.07 xERA. He’s also managed 39 total strikeouts in his six starts this season, which translates to a career-high 28.9% strikeout rate. This is a man who was priced above $9,000 throughout the first four weeks of 2025. I don’t understand what’s changed, but I surely appreciate the savings.
On top of all that, Sanchez draws a very nice matchup on this slate in the form of the Rays. Tampa has not hit left-handed pitching well for the entirety of the season, but over the last two weeks, the team suddenly can’t hit against anyone at all. In that span, the Rays are batting .224 with an 80 wRC+ and a .101 ISO that ranks as the fourth-lowest mark in baseball.
SS Carlos Correa, Minnesota Twins vs. Baltimore Orioles, $3,700
Correa has been absolutely terrible to begin 2025, yet the shortstop is starting to show some signs of life. To wit, Correa has five hits in his last two games, a stretch that includes a massive 458-foot home run in Tuesday’s victory against the Orioles. I refuse to believe that the 30-year-old simply forgot how to hit over the winter. Remember, while injuries did limit his overall production, Correa slashed .310/.388/.517 with a 155 wRC+ in 367 plate appearances in 2024. That man is still in there.
Correa will get the opportunity for a third straight positive performance on Wednesday in a matchup with the flailing Charlie Morton ($5,000), who is back in Baltimore’s rotation after a brief demotion to the bullpen. In 20.2 innings as a starter in 2025, Morton is surrendering a .352 average and a .591 slugging percentage to opposing hitters. Woof.
1B/2B Colt Keith, Detroit Tigers at Colorado Rockies, $3,200
Speaking of infielders who are slowly turning their seasons around, let’s break down Keith’s recent power surge. The former top prospect almost finished April without a single home run, yet Keith found the seats last Wednesday in Houston, and it seems like that’s unlocked something in the 23-year-old. Keith’s added two more long balls in the week since and he’s now in possession of a very respectable 132 wRC+ against RHPs in 2025. Overall, Keith’s also registered a 74th percentile expected wOBA (.362) this season, so it might be safe to assume he was just getting a little unlucky early on.
He’ll have a chance to keep the good times rolling against Chase Dollander ($6,500) at Coors Field. Dollander is another former top prospect, and while the stuff looks amazing, the rookie has understandably had his issues in the altitude. In three career starts in Colorado, the right-hander has allowed six home runs.
