All 30 teams across Major League Baseball will take the field on Wednesday. The first of today’s 15 contests starts at 12:05 EST, with the nightcap occurring at 9:38 EST. That means nearly 12 hours of non-stop hardball for fans to enjoy. Among the matchups to watch, the Giants and Cubs will wrap up their series with an afternoon showdown at Wrigley Field. Later, aces will battle in the Bronx when the Yankees and Max Fried host Dylan Cease’s Padres.

Gunnar Hoglund more than 3.5 strikeouts
Don’t look now, but the Athletics are currently second in the AL West with a 20-17 record. What’s been behind this surprisingly good start? Baseball’s 16th-highest scoring offense, bringing in 4.32 runs per game. The pitching staff has been a different story, coughing up the sixth-most runs on average in baseball (4.98). Top prospect Gunnar Hoglund offers a glimmer of hope for this mediocre A’s rotation. In his major league debut last week, the 25-year-old tossed six innings of one-run ball vs. the Marlins. During that start, he struck out seven batters.
The rookie will look to continue his early success this afternoon in Sacramento. Visiting on Wednesday are the Mariners, a group that thrives on the mound but struggles at the plate. This season, Seattle is tied for the tenth-most strikeouts per game (8.47). Another seven-K showing from Hoglund is unlikely. Still, at just 3.5, this total is too low for an arm with plenty of whiff potential.
Adolis Garcia more than 1.5 total bases
A much-maligned Rangers offense came through last night, tallying five runs in the fourth inning against Boston. Leading the charge was Adolis Garcia, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI. It was a terrific performance in what has otherwise been a season to forget. Through 35 games, the Cuban is slashing .236/.289/.360 with four home runs and 18 RBIs.
Garcia now has five hits and three runs driven in over his last two appearances. The outfielder will look to keep his momentum going on Wednesday vs. Red Sox starter Tanner Houck. It’s been a brutal start to 2025 for the former All-Star, pitching to a 6.38 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. Garcia, in eight career at-bats against the right-hander, has notched four hits and two homers. With stellar numbers in this spot, the slugger only needs one deep ball to reach this total tonight.
Cristopher Sanchez more than 5.5 strikeouts thrown
On a Phillies squad loaded with pitching, Cristopher Sanchez has been an early standout. Through 31.1 innings, the lefty has accounted for a 3.45 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 39 strikeouts. While not quite All-Star caliber, the Dominican is a reliable third option behind aces Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola. In his last start, Sanchez tossed five frames of two-run ball vs. Washington, striking out six.
Philadelphia will hope to wrap up its series in Tampa Bay with a win tonight. A southpaw such as Sanchez is uniquely suited to take advantage of a subpar lineup. This season, the Rays rank 29th in OPS (.553) and batting average (.189) against left handed hurlers. In addition, they’ve struck out at the 13th-highest rate in baseball (8.41). Six swings and misses is a reasonable expectation for Sanchez in this advantageous matchup on Wednesday.
Max Fried more than 18.5 outs
After losing Gerrit Cole to Tommy John surgery in March, it was fair to wonder if the Yankees would have enough pitching. While rotation depth is still a concern, New York has found its new ace in Max Fried. The left-hander, signed this offseason from Atlanta, has been nothing short of phenomenal thus far. Through seven starts, he’s produced 39 strikeouts, a 0.94 WHIP and an American League-leading 1.01 ERA. Over his last 20.2 innings pitched, Fried has yet to allow a run.
On the flip side, San Diego’s offense has been a disaster recently. Since April 23rd, the Padres have the fewest home runs (five) and ninth-lowest batting average (.232) of any club. The return of Jackson Merrill should help, but the Friars are clearly suffering a team-wide slump right now. Fried has logged at least 6.2 innings in four of his last five outings. Expect another lengthy outing for the two-time All-Star tonight.
Paul Goldschmidt more than 0.5 hits
We’ll stay in the Bronx, where the Yankees’ bats will hope to carry over some momentum from Tuesday’s 12-3 victory. In one of the offseason’s best signings, New York inked Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year deal. Through 36 games, the first baseman is slashing .351/.401/.458 while driving in three homers and 17 RBIs. It’s safe to say that any fears over the former MVP’s decline have been put to rest. The 37-year-old has already recorded a whopping 16 multi-hit games.
An experienced batter such as Goldy has faced off against almost every starter in baseball at some point. That includes Padres ace Dylan Cease, who has struggled this season (5.61 ERA). Over six career at-bats against the starter, Goldschmidt has compiled three hits. Keeping that in mind, the 15-year pro has a decent shot at smacking another single in this one.
Spencer Torkelson more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
Entering the regular season, the biggest concern for the Tigers was their lineup depth. Would Detroit score enough to support one of baseball’s most dominant pitching staffs? Through over a month of play, the answer is a resounding yes. The team ranks fifth in the league with 5.11 runs per game. One of the biggest contributors on offense has been first baseman Spencer Torkelson. The 25-year-old has tallied ten homers and 27 RBIs, giving Detroit some much-needed power.
Even at the cavernous Comerica Park, the Tigers have shown an ability to rack up runs. Tonight’s contest will be held at Coors Field, the most hitter-friendly park in baseball. It also helps that the Rockies will send rookie Chase Dollander to the mound, owner of a 6.48 ERA. Torkelson has knocked a ball out of the park twice over his last four appearances. Another productive day at the dish is likelier than not for Detroit’s young slugger.
