MLB Prop Bets for Tuesday, May 6, 2025

Byron Buxton over 1.5 total bases -115

I’m thinking Buxton will be back in the leadoff spot tonight against lefty Cade Povich. We saw Buxton hit leadoff on Sunday when the Twins faced lefty Garrett Crochet, so I’m banking on that again. Buxton has fantastic numbers against lefties, with a .391 wOBA and a .233 ISO dating back to last season. Povich continues to post poor numbers, with a 5.16 ERA, an xERA of 6.08, and a 5.22 FIP. He averages less than a strikeout per inning, relying on contact for outs most of the time. Povich gives up a lot of hard contact (47%) and fly balls (41%), which makes this spot even more appealing for Buxton. Assuming he’s in the leadoff spot, I feel confident about him going over 1.5 total bases.

Justin Verlander under 16.5 outs recorded -115

To his credit, Verlander has pitched at least six innings in three straight starts. However, I think that streak ends tonight in a tough matchup against the Cubs. This lineup is patient, tough to strike out, and mashes four-seam fastballs. Verlander throws his four-seam fastball 52% of the time, and this projected lineup has a combined .335 wOBA and .191 ISO against it since last season. Verlander isn’t the power pitcher he once was, averaging less than a strikeout per inning. I envision him throwing many pitches, quickly driving up his pitch count. Against a lineup as tough as the Cubs, I don’t believe he’ll record 17 total outs tonight.

Athletics over 2.5 runs through first five innings -120

This is not a favorable matchup for Mariners starter Emerson Hancock tonight. The Athletics have been raking at the plate lately, averaging five runs over their last five games. Hancock throws sinkers 40% of the time. The Athletics have mashed this pitch since last season, with tonight’s expected lineup posting a .421 wOBA and a .149 ISO against it. It’s a small sample, but opposing hitters have jumped on Hancock early in his starts. The first time through the order, Hancock has allowed nine of the 13 earned runs he has conceded.

Good luck with these MLB picks for tonight!
