My goodness, what a game.
The Nuggets trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter of Game 1 vs. the Thunder on Monday, but showed their championship resolve in a ferocious comeback.
Chet Holmgren missed a pair of free throws that would have given OKC a three-point lead with 9.5 seconds to play. After a Christian Braun rebound, Russell Westbrook could have went full Westbrook and dribbled into traffic, but instead made the correct play and kicked it to a wide-open Aaron Gordon on the left wing for the dagger triple.
With 2.8 seconds left and no timeouts, all OKC could muster was a three-quarter-court heave from Jalen Williams, which didn’t even hit the rim.
Lost in the madness was how good Nikola Jokic was in this game, as he finished with a ridiculous 42 points, 22 rebounds and six assists on 15-of-29 shooting.
The Nuggets absolutely stole this one and now lead 1-0 in the series.
