BREAK IT DOWN:
Shohei Ohtani 1+ Home Runs (+235): Ohtani’s start of the 2025 season has been slightly disappointing so far, by his standards — he merely ranks fourth in OPS in the National League instead of first like he did last season — but he still ranks ninth in the Senior Circuit with eight homers and has gone deep twice in his last five games. Ohtani also ranks in the 100th percentile in hard-hit percentage and average exit velocity. Meanwhile, Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara has allowed four homers already in just 26 innings pitched and has given up a .524 expected slugging percentage. The former NL Cy Young winner also ranks in just the 18th percentile in average exit velocity as he continues to struggle in his return from Tommy John surgery.
Aaron Judge 1+ Home Runs (+195): If Ohtani’s numbers are video-game numbers, Judge’s are fully mythical. The reigning AL MVP has hit 11 homers this season — which ranks behind only Raleigh’s 12 — his slash line is an absurd .423/.510/.777, and he leads both leagues in most statistical categories. Of course it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go deep again; he has three long balls over his last five games, a stretch over which he’s hit .526/.591/1.211. San Diego’s Nick Pivetta is a more difficult matchup for Judge than Alcantara is for Ohtani; by pitching run value, Pivetta has ranked in the top percentile so far this season. He’s only given up two home runs all season and ranks in the 65th percentile in average exit velocity, although he’s arguably gotten lucky with a wOBA 6.5 percentage points better than expected and a .226 batting average on balls in play.
Pete Alonso 1+ Home Runs (+280): Today’s top-bet props are pretty chalk; while Judge has been pretty easily the AL’s best hitter so far this season, his counterpart in Queens has been arguably the NL’s. Alonso leads the Senior Circuit in each of the three slash-line categories, with a .344/.468/.656 line, and he’s tied with Ohtani on eight home runs. He has almost no weaknesses as a hitter — he ranks in the top five percentiles in seven out of the 13 Statcast categories — and can hit it anywhere on the field. Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson has only given up one home run this season, but that’s misleading; he ranks in just the seventh percentile in average exit velocity and has gotten quite lucky with a wOBA significantly lower than expected.
