Scottie Scheffler ties PGA TOUR record at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

After winning seven times on the PGA TOUR in 2024 and adding a gold medal and the FedExCup Championship, Scottie Scheffler ($13,300; 177 FPTS) claimed his first win of 2025 in memorable fashion this week.

Scheffler matched the PGA TOUR record for the lowest 72-hole score by finishing -31 for the week with a total of 253 strokes in the four rounds.

He started the week with a scorching, bogey-free 61, which is -10 at TPC Craig Ranch. In Round 2, he started with eight straight pars before an eagle jumpstarted his round and led to six birdies on his second nine and a 63 that helped him to a record-low -18 after two rounds. In Round 3, Scheffler had seven birdies and two bogeys to get to -23, and on Sunday, he poured in eight birdies and an eagle to go with two bogeys for a -8 round that brought him to -31.

His 253 total strokes ties the record for a four-round tournament on the PGA TOUR, which he shared with Justin Thomas before this event. Earlier this season, Hideki Matsuyama had a lower score relative to par but needed more total strokes. In his season-opening win, Matsuyama finished -35 at The Plantation Course in Kapalua, which is the only Par 73 in the regular PGA TOUR rotation for a four-round total of 257 strokes.

Scheffler was in my cash game picks for the week and was a key part of many fantasy lineups given his dominant performance. He finished nine strokes clear of the rest of the field with Erik Van Rooyen ($6,700; 144 FPTS) finishing in solo second at -23 ahead of Sam Stevens ($7,600; 123 FPTS) in third and Jordan Spieth ($10,500; 124 FPTS) who surged to fourth with a final round 62, which was the best round of the day. Van Rooyen qualified for next week’s Truist Championship with his strong showing this week.

In the PGA TOUR $700K SAND TRAP [$200K TO 1ST] on DraftKings, Scheffler was in 48.7% of entries. Van Rooyen was a huge difference-maker since he was owned in just 2% of entries, and Stevens was also a key contributor for this entry from Skibasher, which finished atop the leaderboard.
