Only one NBA game is on tap for Saturday, Game 7 between the Nuggets and Clippers. In this win or go home battle, plenty of stars are expected to suit up. Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard, and James Harden are just a few of the names that will be on the floor in Denver. Kawhi Leonard more than 28.5 points + assists
This postseason has served as a reminder that Kawhi Leonard remains one of basketball’s elite superstars. When healthy, the forward is still a menace on both ends of the court. This postseason, The Claw has averaged 25.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists on 54.5% shooting from the field. In Game 6, he delivered 27 points en route to a 111-105 Clippers victory.
In tonight’s matchup, all eyes will be on Leonard whenever he touches the ball. Unfortunately for the Nuggets, their defense isn’t equipped to slow down Los Angeles’ leading man. Kawhi has notched at least 29 points + assists in three of six outings vs. Denver this postseason. As we’ve seen before, the six-time All-Star is at his best when the games matter most; expect a vintage Leonard performance.
Aaron Gordon more than 14.5 points
Other than Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon has been the most important player for Denver this postseason. Whether its flying in for a rebound, swatting a shot, or hitting a game-winning tip-in, the forward has done it all. In every game this series, Gordon has scored at least 14 points while shooting 50.6% from the field.
When guarding Jokic and Jamal Murray, even a defense as good as Los Angeles’ needs to pick its battles. Due to Denver’s offensive firepower, the Clippers have to live with getting beaten by a third option. So far, Gordon has taken full advantage of the extra touches. Even when the high-flyer hasn’t gotten the ball, his presence on the glass has led to numerous put-back opportunities. At this point, ride the hot hand in a potential 40+ minute outing.
James Harden more than 2.5 three-pointers made
Leonard isn’t the only star worth mentioning for Los Angeles. For all the criticism over his ‘clutch gene’, James Harden has been terrific this postseason. Through six games, The Beard has posted 20.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. In Thursday’s do-or-die Game 6, the guard tallied 28 points over 47 minutes.
In the later stages of his career, Harden has shifted into more of a pass-first point guard. However, the 35-year-old is still one of basketball’s most lethal shooters. This series, the former MVP has connected on 37.5% of his three-point attempts. During that time, he’s enjoyed four different outings of at least three buckets made from beyond the arc. Given his success from deep, a vintage evening from Harden could be in the cards tonight.
Russell Westbrook more than 11.5 points
On this select one-game slate, finding good value can be a chore. In what should be an intense, physical elimination game, why not go with experience? 36-year-old Russell Westbrook has seen just about everything on a basketball court over 17 seasons in the NBA. The former MVP is now a depth piece for the Nuggets, capable of playing big minutes off the bench. That doesn’t always mean you’re getting the best out of Mr. Triple-Double. The guard’s lack of efficiency makes his scoring dependent on volume.
Despite his inconsistency, Westbrook is the kind of name worth taking a flier on tonight. For the most part, he’s had a decent series, dropping at least 12 points in four of his last five outings. If not for a mid-game injury in Game 4, the veteran could have enjoyed another solid performance. Russ was busy in Game 6, logging 14 points, ten rebounds and six assists over 35 minutes. Another heavy workload tonight could lead to plenty of buckets from the future Hall of Famer.
Bogdan Bogdanovic more than 6.5 points
If the Clippers are going to take down a top-heavy Nuggets squad, they’ll need contributions from their bench. So far in this series, that’s meant plenty of rotation reshuffling from head coach Ty Lue. One of the names that’s gotten some extended minutes recently is Bogdan Bogdanovic. Acquired at the trade deadline from Atlanta, it’s been a mixed bag for the Serbian with his new team. Through 30 games with Los Angeles, he’s averaged 11.4 points on 47.4% shooting from the field.
During the last three games in this series, Bogdanovic has scored a combined 31 points. That includes an 18-point, five-assist performance in Game 5. The 32-year-old won’t command a massive workload, but he’s a proven sharpshooter. If the Clippers find themselves in need of offense tonight, don’t be shocked to see Bogi play important minutes down the stretch.
Jamal Murray more than 4.5 rebounds
Even Nikola Jokic isn’t good enough to do everything on his own. In an intense playoff environment, Denver’s chances of winning or losing often hinge on the play of Jamal Murray. Throughout his career, the guard has typically been up to the challenge. Over 71 career postseason games, Murray has recorded 24.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists.
Surprisingly, the Canadian has had a ton of success on the glass against the Clippers. Murray has notched at least five boards in four of six games this series. At this point, it appears that Los Angeles’ back court is having some difficulty boxing out the Nuggets’ guards. Should that trend continue on Saturday, Denver’s second-best player is poised for another handful of rebounds.
