On Friday morning, the Yankees placed Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right oblique that has kept him sidelined since leaving Tuesday’s game early.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
•Recalled INF Jorbit Vivas (#90) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
•Placed INF Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 4/30) with a right oblique strain.— New York Yankees (@Yankees) May 2, 2025
Since the move was retroactive to April 30, he will miss at least the next week. There’s definitely the potential that he could be out longer, though, since he was scheduled for imaging on Thursday which revealed something significant enough to need an IL stint.
Speaking to the media before Friday’s game, manager Aaron Boone said that Jazz has a “high grade strain” of his oblique. He added that, “it’s going to be some time,” and ultimately put a timeline of around four-to-six weeks.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. (oblique) could miss 4-6 weeks, Aaron Boone said.

Chisholm was hitting just .181 through his first 30 games of the season with seven home runs, six stolen bases and a .319 wOBA. Since his huge opening series against the Brewers, he has gone just 14-for-93 (.151) with four homers in 27 games.

Chisholm’s absence will open playing time at 2B in a powerful Yankees lineup, but without Jazz, the lineup also takes a step backwards overall. Pablo Reyes ($2,100) got the start at 2B in his spot on Wednesday but is hitting just .188 in his 11 games this season with a .226 wOBA.
To fill Chisholm’s roster spot, the Yankees recalled Jorbit Vivas ($2,000), who did not appear in a game during his first stint with the team but was hitting .319 with two homers and six stolen bases in 26 games for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in Triple-A. The 24-year-old lefty could help fill in at 2B while Chisholm is out but Reyes and Oswald Peraza ($2,300) seem to be more likely solutions who were already on the roster.
Boone said that Vivas will play a lot in the coming weeks, and it could be a good opportunity for the youngster to make an impact and establish himself as part of the team’s plans for the future.
