Let’s head down to Texas for the final game of Wednesday evening, where Nathan Eovaldi stalks the bump for the home team against Luis Severino. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Wednesday night baseball game between the Rangers and the A’s.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Rangers vs. A’s prediction, preview
Nathan Eovaldi is locked in right now, and the Athletics just won’t have an answer for him tonight. With a 2.21 ERA and a league-leading 0.74 WHIP, Eovaldi has been mowing through lineups with surgical precision. He just dominated the Giants in his last start, going six scoreless innings, striking out seven, and surrendering just three hits. The Athletics’ offense? Struggling to get going, particularly against high-quality arms like Eovaldi. They’ve been quiet in this series, only managing to score four runs in the first two games—two of those coming off Shea Langeliers’ home run in a losing effort on Tuesday.
Eovaldi has limited Athletics hitters to a .235/.286/.388 slash line across 85 at-bats, making him a nightmare for this lineup. He’s dominated against key hitters like Miguel Andujar, Seth Brown, and Brent Rooker, striking out this trio a combined 11 times. Eovaldi has also compiled 67 career strikeouts against the A’s, and I expect him to keep that trend going.
Luis Severino, on the other hand, is no slouch, posting a 3.49 ERA with a respectable 1.09 WHIP. But his numbers in this matchup don’t paint a bright picture. Severino has been prone to mistakes against the Rangers, and their hitters know how to take advantage of those mistakes. With big bats like Wyatt Langford and Adolis Garcia, who have shown they can hit Severino well, the Rangers are poised to break through.
Garcia has been swinging a hot bat with a .214 average, six home runs, and 11 RBIs, while Langford’s slugging .639 with 11 extra-base hits and a .319 batting average. Severino’s 1.09 WHIP and 6.7 K/9 innings this season won’t be enough to keep Texas’ offense in check, especially after their 15-run eruption on Tuesday. If Severino struggles to find his rhythm, the Rangers are likely to pounce.
A’s vs. Rangers pick, best bet
On the betting front, the Rangers are 11-4 at home this season and have been dominant in their last eight Wednesday home games against American League opponents. Eovaldi has been rock-solid, and with the Rangers coming off a massive win, the momentum is on their side. While the Athletics have a decent track record as underdogs this year, they’re up against a much tougher test in this one.
Marcus Semien, batting only .178 this season, is slowly starting to heat up after a tough start. He’s had six hits in his last four games, and should look to continue his positive momentum against Severino. The Rangers have also covered the spread in six of their last eight Wednesday home games as favorites, and I expect them to keep that streak alive.
Best bet: Rangers -1.5 (+136) vs. A’s
