Out west, now, for some late-night ball. Miami’s pitching struggles meet a Dodgers offense hungry for a bounce-back after a few missteps. With Cabrera’s control issues and the Dodgers’ dominant bats led by Hernandez and Ohtani, this one’s shaping up to be a statement win. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Dodgers and the Marlins.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Dodgers vs. Marlins prediction, preview
Dustin May, despite his rough last outing, remains the superior pitcher in this matchup. He enters with a 3.68 ERA and has been strong at home, boasting a 1.08 ERA over three starts at Dodger Stadium. While he struggled against the Cubs, allowing seven earned runs, he had been dominant in his first three starts, allowing just five earned runs over 17 innings.
The Marlins, on the other hand, send Edward Cabrera to the mound, a pitcher whose 6.14 ERA and troubling 1.43 WHIP don’t inspire much confidence. Cabrera has surrendered a home run in each of his three starts and has walked at least two batters per outing. This doesn’t bode well against a Dodgers offense that ranks eighth in the league in runs scored and boasts a powerful lineup featuring Teoscar Hernandez, who leads with 24 RBIs and has been scorching hot with eight home runs.
The Marlins have been inconsistent at the plate, with Xavier Edwards leading the charge at .270 and Kyle Stowers offering some pop with 15 RBIs, but Cabrera’s inconsistency on the mound will likely be exposed by a high-octane Dodgers offense that’s beginning to find its groove. Shohei Ohtani, who’s batting .286, and Hernandez’s hot streak are just a few reasons why Los Angeles remains an offensive juggernaut. Cabrera’s inability to avoid free passes, combined with the Dodgers’ discipline and power, should lead to another high-scoring game.
Marlins vs. Dodgers pick, best bet
Looking at the betting trends, the Dodgers have been dominant at home, winning their last six games at Dodger Stadium against NL East opponents with losing records. The Marlins, meanwhile, have struggled in these road games and have a troubling 1-5 record in their last six games against the Dodgers. The Dodgers have also covered the run line in five of their last six games with May on the mound at home.
My bet here is simple: Take the Dodgers -1.5 on the run line. The Marlins’ pitching staff has been one of the worst in the league, and Cabrera is highly vulnerable to being taken apart by a team that knows how to exploit pitchers who struggle with command. The Dodgers’ offensive firepower, combined with May’s ability to rebound on home turf, makes this one of the most solid run line plays of the day.
Best bet: Dodgers -1.5 (-125) vs. Marlins
