It is a lighter eight-game slate of MLB action tonight. The Nationals and Mets kicked things off with a 4:05 p.m. ET first pitch, and the final game will be taking place at 10:10 p.m. ET between the Marlins and the Dodgers.
While there will be busier days of baseball, there are still plenty of ways to get in on the action this evening. One of the more unique features on DraftKings this year is Pick6 Fantasy Baseball!
This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for action for today, 4/28/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on the remaining slate.
Jose Ramirez More Than 1.5 Total Bases
Bailey Ober is set to take the mound for the Minnesota Twins and is off to a slow start to the year. He has allowed five home runs and 14 earned runs across his first 25.0 innings pitched. As a right-handed pitcher, Ober also has had additional struggles against left-handed hitters. Jose Ramirez can hit from either side of the plate, but will have this to his advantage tonight.
In their careers, Ramirez is 6-for-19 at the plate against Ober with one home run. He has hit four of his five total home runs against right-handers this season as well. Ober is a fly-ball pitcher, and I like Ramirez’s chances of hitting a home run tonight, but am taking more than 1.5 total bases for added security. Ramirez has tallied four doubles and has 25 total hits across his first 95 at-bats this season.
Ramirez hit three home runs against the Twins last season and has also hit a home run off relievers Jhoan Duran and Louis Varland in his career. He has recorded more than 1.5 total bases in three of his past four games and seven of his last 12. Look for him to capitalize on this favorable matchup and add to the strong start to the season today.
Tomoyuki Sugano More Than 3.5 Strikeouts
Tomoyuki Sugano is set to make his sixth start of his MLB career after signing with the Orioles back in December. The 35-year-old had an accomplished career back in Japan that included being a two-time winner of the Sawamura Award, or Nippon Professional Baseball’s equivalent of the Cy Young Award. He led Japan’s Central League in strikeouts twice during his time there and is still finding his footing in the MLB.
Across his opening five starts, Sugano has allowed 11 earned runs in 28.0 innings and struck out just nine total batters. He has recorded more than 3.5 strikeouts in just one of his five starts thus far. Sugano will benefit from facing a Yankees team that ranks third in the MLB and second in the American League with 264 strikeouts logged already. His quality of pitching has shown some positive flashes, so look for him to get back on track today. Look for him to record more than 3.5 strikeouts against a Yankees team that will be ready to take some hacks.
JP Sears More Than 4.5 Strikeouts Thrown
JP Sears is off to a strong start to the season and has a favorable matchup against a Rangers lineup with a high strikeout rate against lefties. Sears has thrown 28.0 innings thus far this season, limiting opponents to 10 earned runs and striking out 23. He has recorded more than 4.5 strikeouts in three of his first five starts.
In his most recent outing, Sears tallied five strikeouts in five innings en route to his third win of the season. He has also had success against the Rangers in his career. In his nine starts, he has struck out 45 batters in 48 and a third inning. Look for Sears to continue his strong start and tally more than 4.5 strikeouts tonight.
Ronel Blanco Less Than 5.5 Strikeouts Thrown
Ronel Blanco made a name for himself with his high strikeout rate across the first three seasons of his MLB career. The 31-year-old struck out 225 hitters in 225 and two-thirds innings. However, he has had some more struggles this season.
Across his first five games, Blanco has allowed 13 earned runs in 23.1 innings pitched. He has still struck out 20 hitters on the season, but has been held to less than 5.5 strikeouts in each of his past four starts. He has only tallied four strikeouts across his past two starts. There is no reason to panic about Blanco in the long haul, but he has not sat batters down at the same rate this year. Don’t expect this to change against the Tigers. The 5.5 mark is a slightly high bar for strikeouts, so look for him to be held to less than this tonight.
Edward Cabrera More Than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
It has been an ugly start to the season for Edward Cabrera. He has allowed 10 earned runs in just 14.2 innings pitched, allowing three home runs and eight walks. Cabrera will now face the daunting task of attempting to stop this Dodgers offense with the wind expected to be blowing out in the hitters’ favor.
Cabrera has continually seen his ERA increase since posting a 3.01 in 2022. His road ERA is also 1.5 runs higher, and Los Angeles is an especially-problematic matchup. He made two starts against the Dodgers last season, allowing four runs in less than three innings in one start and seven runs in the other. This season might end up getting worse before it gets better for the 27 year old, so count on Cabrera to allow more than 2.5 earned runs tonight.
Max Muncy More Than 0.5 Hits
It has also been an ugly start to the season for Max Muncy, and this is the type of matchup he will be looking at to help jumpstart his campaign. Currently, Muncy is posting disappointing hitting splits of .173/.292/.235 with zero home runs on the season, but there is a lengthy track record of what he has brought to the table in his career. Muncy is 3-for-6 with one home run, four RBIs, and has tallied two walks against Cabrera thus far.
While the raw numbers have been ugly, there are still some signs of optimism in Muncy’s advanced metrics. He is posting a 12.2% barrel rate, which ranks in the 72nd percentile, and a .414 xSLG. Baseball is a weird sport where sometimes you can hit the ball exactly right but it just goes to the wrong place, and Muncy has been on the short end of this outlook. Count on him to capitalize on this favorable matchup and record a hit tonight.
