The Giants and Rangers played a close, competitive series in San Francisco, and Sunday’s third game was jam-packed with drama. Heliot Ramos was the hero, while the Rangers’ defense imploded and gave him one of the most unique walk-off winners of the season.

Despite collecting 10 hits, the Rangers were only able to manage two runs in nine innings against Jordan Hicks, Hayden Birdsong and Camilo Doval. Both those runs scored in the first inning, but the Giants answered with runs in the first and fifth to tie the score at 2-2.
The games was still tied at 2-2 in the ninth inning when Ramos led off against Rangers’ relief pitcher Luke Jackson. He hit a slow tapper to the third-base side of the pitchers mound that Jackson rushed to field and threw past the first baseman. Ramos was given credit for an infield single and went to third on Jackson’s error. As he slid into third, first baseman Jake Burger made an ill-advised throw to third that also got away, allowing Ramos to scamper home for the walk-off winner.
After their error-filled finish, the Rangers are 15-13 overall and 5-10 on the road, while the Giants improved to 19-10 overall and 9-4 at home. The Giants stayed 0.5 games ahead of the Dodgers in the NL West while the Rangers are one game behind the Mariners in the AL West.
The Rangers head home to host the Athletics for a four-game series starting Monday, while the Giants go on the road to face the Padres in a quick two-game set in San Diego on Tuesday and Wednesday.
