A pivotal Game 4 is set for tonight when the Nuggets take on the Clippers. Los Angeles leads 2-1 in this best-of-seven series. Following a blowout loss in Game 3, Denver needs to even things up. This is not an ideal matchup for any member of the Nuggets, including three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. The Clippers are a tough, physical team that thrives on the defensive end of the court. This season, Los Angeles has held opponents to the fifth-fewest points per game (107.8). That level of dominance has carried over into this series; Denver has scored an average of 99.0 points through three games.
Even against a stingy LA front court, Jokic has been phenomenal. If not for a nine-rebound outing in Game 1, the center would have posted three straight triple-doubles. Now, the pressure is on the big man’s teammates to step up in a hostile environment. If anyone on Denver’s roster has shown they can perform in a big game, it’s Jamal Murray. The guard, known as a playoff riser, was outstanding during the team’s championship-winning run in 2023.
Murray has been good, if not great, in this series. The 28-year-old has notched at least 21 points, but no more than 23, in each game thus far. It’s encouraging that the Canadian has shot an efficient 46.2% from the field (42.1 3PT%). If anything, those numbers are a sign that the former champion needs to take on a bigger scoring role.
Given Murray’s success in important games, it makes sense to back him as an all-around contributor. In three of the veteran’s last five meetings with the Clippers, he’s totaled at least 31 points + rebounds + assists. Following an 83-point effort earlier this week, the Nuggets should find much more success on offense tonight. If that occurs, Murray is set up nicely for another terrific postseason stat line.
