Draft Day always comes with surprises. The surprise of 2025 is Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. After 102 picks, Sanders’ name remains uncalled.
Many things are working against Sanders. He’s no perfect prospect on the field, most notably due to his overconfidence in his abilities, which led to many avoidable sacks. It’s being reported that Sanders made a poor impression during his interviews. On top of that, few quarterbacks chosen in this range have panned out recently. You can count the number of starting quarterbacks in the league that weren’t first-round picks on one hand.
Still, it seems drastic for him to be QB6 at best. Cam Ward was always going ahead. Jaxson Dart seemed likely. Jalen Milroe makes sense. Two quarterbacks, 24 and older, with fewer NFL-level traits selected before him is confusing. It begs questions about what is going on behind the scenes.
As of now, Pittsburgh is the favorite to select Sanders on the third day, by a wide margin. They’re the most QB-needy team. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess what happens.
