Jack Leiter has plenty of pedigree, being the son of three-time World Series champion Al Leiter and getting drafted by the Texas Rangers with the second overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft.

The professional journey hasn’t been a smooth one, though, for Leiter. While he was able to rack up strikeouts in the minors, he walked a ton of batters, gave up long balls and the FIP was routinely over 5.0.

In 2024, Leiter made his MLB debut, and the struggles continued. He continued to walk batters and serve up meat balls. To make matters worse, he wasn’t able to strike out many batters. In 35.2 MLB innings, he posted a 5.66 FIP.

But 2025 brought hope and optimism due to the stellar start. In 10 innings (two starts), Jack posted a 1.32 FIP, struck out 10, walked only one and did not allow a home run. Unfortunately, a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand caused him to go on the 15-day injured list.

On Friday, Bruce Bochy said Leiter will be activated and start Sunday’s game against the Giants in San Francisco.

The Giants offense has been a formidable one to start the season, ranking fourth in walk rate and ninth in ISO.
