MLB Prop Bets for Wednesday, April 23, 2025

Red Sox over 14.5 team total bases -120

The Red Sox are expected to be one of the highest-scoring teams this evening, with a team total of 5.5 runs. Emerson Hancock will be taking the mound for the Mariners and brings with him some horrific numbers through 5.2 innings. He’s already been tagged for eight runs, allowing 12 hits and recording only four strikeouts against the Reds and Tigers. It’s a very small sample, but we saw similar results last year, when Hancock had a 5.94 xERA and a 5.69 FIP through 60.2 innings. Hancock relies heavily on sinkers, a pitch the Red Sox crush. The Red Sox’s expected lineup tonight has a combined .392 wOBA and a .194 ISO. Once he’s out, the Mariners’ bullpen could continue to struggle, as they have lately. We saw the Mariners’ bullpen allow three runs on six hits and three walks over 3.1 innings last night in the Red Sox’s 8-3 win. Over the past week, they have a combined 4.38 ERA and a 4.40 FIP, along with a 6.2 K/9. I expect the Red Sox’s bats to be strong tonight.

Tyler Soderstrom over 1.5 H/R/RBI -120

I like the Athletics tonight, going up against Rangers starter Kumar Rocker. It’s been a tumultuous start for the young Rangers starter, posting a 6.38 ERA with an xERA of 5.11. In particular, left-handed batters against Rocker this season have hit him hard, posting a .492 wOBA, a 4.30 FIP, and four extra-base hits. Soderstrom hasn’t just been the Athletics’ best hitter, he’s been one of the best hitters in the league. He’s exceeded 1.5 hits + runs + RBI in 13 of his 23 games (56%). If Soderstrom reaches base, the hitters behind him, who also hit sinkers well, create strong opportunities for him to score and contribute to exceeding the 1.5 hits + runs + RBI mark.

Double Play Parlay: Orioles/Giants over 0.5 double plays turned +170

Double Play Parlay Record: 2-2 +1.6 units

The Double Play Parlay lost last night, leaving it with a 2-2 record but still up 1.6 betting units. Tonight, we’re backing the Orioles and Giants to turn double plays against the Nationals and Brewers. The Nationals face Tomoyuki Sugano, who induces a 50% ground ball rate against left-handed batters. The Nationals have a very left-handed-heavy lineup, likely including seven left-handed batters tonight. Over the past week, the Nationals lead the league with a 55% ground ball rate.

Logan Webb induces a high rate of ground balls when on the mound. Through 30 innings this season, he has a 56% ground ball rate, just below his career average of 58%. The Brewers have hit ground balls consistently this season, with a 47% rate over the past week.

Good luck with these MLB picks for tonight!
