The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings opened their first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series with a high-octane Game 1 on Monday night. The Kings surged to a 4-0 lead before surrendering to an Oilers comeback which knotted the game at 5-5 — it didn’t matter in the end, though, as the Kings netted a goal in the final seconds to claim victory.

Game 2 of this series starts at 10 p.m. EST tonight and should be another tightly-contested matchup. Here’s a Kings vs. Oilers prediction and pick for the late-slate action.

Kings vs. Oilers Game 2 prediction, pick

DraftKings Sportsbook once again lists the Kings as Moneyline favorites heading into the second game of this series. At -125 on the Moneyline, Los Angeles’ dominance on home ice is expected to continue. They hold +195 odds of covering the -1.5 puck line, while the Oilers come into the contest as +105 underdogs on the Moneyline with -238 odds to cover the +1.5 spread.

The Oilers nearly pulled off an improbable upset in Game 1 after rallying back from down 4-0. Before the scoring started, Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper was playing great hockey as a stable presence in net just as he was during the regular season. The momentum swing was ugly as Edmonton snuck a few shots past him, but that shouldn’t scare bettors off from taking another goalie prop tonight.

The collapse of the Kings’ defense during Game 1 was an exception, not the norm, as Los Angeles typically holds opponents to the second-fewest goals in the NHL. As for Kuemper’s production, he’s been one of the most productive netminders in the league over this season’s sample, but he’s been especially effective over the last two months with a top-six save percentage and goals-against average. When playing at home over that span, Kuemper sits second-best in each category, too.

With that home-ice success in mind, over 24.5 saves for Kuemper feels like the top pick for Game 2. Their last outing was hard-fought, but they may not surrender such a comeback again — watch for the Kings’ defense to hold its own tonight as they down their rival to take a 2-0 series lead.

Best bet: Darcy Kuemper over 24.5 saves (-130)
