Expectations were high for the Bears in 2024, and it’s safe to say they failed to meet them. Chicago went 5-12, failing to reach the postseason for the fifth consecutive season. Now, general manager Ryan Poles will attempt to build a quality roster around second-year quarterback Caleb Williams. Landing an impact player with the tenth selection of the draft would be a big step towards contention.
Ahead of Thursday night, let’s break down the Bears’ NFL Draft odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Chicago Bears first round pick prediction
As previously mentioned, the 2024-25 campaign was nothing short of a disaster for the Bears. Williams, despite flashes of greatness, didn’t live up to his hype as a generational passer. Still, this is a roster loaded with talent, especially on offense. New head coach Ben Johnson, former offensive coordinator of the Lions, chose this job for a reason.
That doesn’t mean the Bears are set on offense. Chicago could use an upgrade at several positions, including running back. Last season, the team ran for 4.0 yards per attempt, tied for the third-lowest mark in football. Drafting Ashton Jeanty (+300), the Heisman finalist from Boise State, might be the solution.
However, if the Bears are determined to improve their rushing attack, why not fortify their pass protection as well? A dominant offensive lineman could be a perfect fit in the Windy City. Last season, Chicago allowed an NFL-worst 68 sacks to opponents.
Among the names that could be available at #10, Kelvin Banks Jr. stands out. At 6’5″ and 315 lbs, the Texas product can play every position on the offensive line other than center. If the Bears get lucky, Missouri’s Armand Membou could also drop down to this spot.
Right now, Chicago is one of the first round’s biggest enigmas. Other than running back or offensive line, Chicago could also fortify its defense. Last season, the team gave up the sixth-most yards per game in football (354.2). Poles may decide to give Williams a star tight end; either Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland would work.
Ultimately, the easiest way for Chicago to a) control time of possession and b) protect Williams is by selecting an offensive lineman. Ben Johnson knows from his time in Detroit that games are won in the trenches. Snagging a bully up front could turn the Bears into the Monsters of the Midway once again.
BEST BET: CHI to select an offensive lineman with 1st pick (+250)
