MLB Prop Bets for Tuesday, April 22, 2025
Bobby Witt Jr over 1.5 total bases -125
Witt Jr. has been one of the lone bright spots for a struggling Royals offense. Coming into tonight, Witt Jr. is slashing .307/.370/.477 with a .362 wOBA and a .170 ISO. He’s exceeded two total bases in 13 of the 23 games he’s played, representing a 56% success rate. Tonight, the Royals begin a series against the Rockies and their starter, Ryan Feltner. Feltner throws six pitch types, primarily relying on his four-seam fastball, which he uses 40% of the time. As expected, Witt Jr. crushes this pitch. Since last season, Witt Jr. has a .402 wOBA with a .324 ISO against four-seam fastballs. I believe he’s well-positioned to exceed 1.5 total bases for the 14th time tonight.

Seattle Mariners over 4.5 runs +105
The Red Sox will start Brayan Bello for the first time this season after he was sidelined on the IL with a shoulder injury. His minor league stats suggest a quality start in his debut is unlikely. Bello pitched 14 innings across four starts, allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 18 hits, with four walks and 21 strikeouts. While his strikeout numbers are impressive, opposing hitters made frequent contact otherwise. The biggest issue for Bello last year was left-handed hitters, who posted a .348 wOBA against him, hitting 13 of the 19 home runs he allowed, with a 5.21 FIP. The Mariners’ lineup will likely feature at least five left-handed hitters. Compounding Bello’s challenges, winds will be blowing out toward right field tonight, adding to his potential troubles.

Washington Nationals over 11.5 team total bases -125
The Nationals will face Orioles starter Dean Kremer, who has struggled significantly this season, evidenced by his 6.41 ERA, 4.63 xERA, and 5.78 FIP. Tonight, he faces a tough matchup against a Nationals team loaded with left-handed hitters. Left-handed hitters have been a major weakness for him, posting a .387 wOBA, a 7.01 FIP, and hitting four of the five home runs he’s allowed. The Nationals will likely field seven left-handed hitters in their lineup tonight, giving them the upper hand. Kremer throws a variety of pitches, including a cutter, four-seam fastball, splitter, and sinker. The Nationals have average to above-average performance against these pitch types. Expect the Nationals to exceed 11.5 team total bases tonight.
Double Play Parlay: Phillies/Angels over 0.5 double plays turned +156
Double Play Parlay Record: 2-1 +2.6 units
The Double Play Parlay series continues. I will include these parlays daily in my MLB Prop Bets article and track their performance. Today, we’re focusing on two teams starting pitchers who rely heavily on sinkers. The Phillies are starting Cristopher Sanchez, and the Angels are starting Jose Soriano. Sanchez throws his sinker nearly 50% of the time, inducing ground balls at a 53% rate overall. Against left-handed hitters, however, that rate rises to nearly 70%. The Mets are expected to have three or four left-handed hitters in their lineup tonight.
Soriano has induced ground balls at an impressive 61% rate. The Pirates have hit ground balls at roughly the league average of 43%. Given Soriano’s 61% ground ball rate with his sinker, the Pirates are likely to hit into a double play tonight.
