Major League Baseball had a slower slate on Monday, but all the teams are back on the schedule this Tuesday night, with 10 games on the main MLB DFS slate on DraftKings. The main contests start at 7:10 p.m. ET, and there are four games as part of the late wave that start at 9:38 p.m. ET or later. The spread out schedule should give us plenty of baseball all night long with fantasy baseball options from all across the map. SP Bailey Ober, Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox, $6,900
The Twins have had a brutal start to the season and were just swept in Atlanta by the Braves as they fell to 7-15. They’ll come home with a soft landing spot against the White Sox, though, and they’ll look to Ober to serve as their stopper. Since getting shelled in his first start, the 29-year-old righty has looked solid and should be a good value from under $7K in this matchup.
Ober gave up eight hits and eight runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Cardinals in his first start of the season, but has allowed just five runs over 16 1/3 innings since then. He got his first win of the year last Tuesday in a home start against the Mets by working 6 1/3 innings and giving up five hits and three runs while picking up five strikeouts. He earned a season-high 18.7 fantasy points in that start and has at least 14 fantasy points in each of his three outings since his first start shellacking.
The White Sox have scored the fourth-fewest runs in the MLB this season and have an MLB-worst .261 wOBA. They rank just outside the top 10 in the league for strikeout rate, but with Ober, we’re counting on more of a strong outing than a ton of strikeouts. He also has a good chance for a win if the Twins can get their offense to wake up as they come home.
3B Caleb Durbin, Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants, $2,300
It’s been a wild week for Durbin in DraftKings MLB DFS contests. He was promoted Friday, not in the player pool Saturday, eligible at 2B/SS on Sunday and Monday, and has now oficially arrived at 3B, where he is actually expected to be a regular part of the Brewers’ lineup. Manager Pat Murphy made it very clear that Durbin will be the team’s starting 3B, and so far, he has been a great bargain play.
I had Durbin in my value picks for Monday, and he came through with his first MLB home run in the Brewers’ loss to the Giants. He finished with 16 fantasy points and has averaged 8.8 fantasy points in his four games since joining the team. He does have a little power, but is more of a fantasy asset for his speed. This spring, Durbin impressed with 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts and hit .259 with a pair of homers and a .334 wOBA.
His big spring was a great first impression with the Brew Crew after he came over in the trade for Devin Williams. Durbin stole 31 bases and hit 10 homers with a .378 wOBA in the minors last year, and he brings great value upside again on Tuesday, although he now has to take up your 3B spot.
OF Cam Smith, Houston Astros vs. Toronto Blue Jays, $2,500
The Astros gave Smith the starting right field job less than a year after he was a first-round pick in the MLB Draft after an impressive spring training. The 22-year-old stepped right in to replace Kyle Tucker after being the top prospect to come to Houston in the Tucker trade this offseason.
Not surprisingly, there were some early-season growing pains for the youngster with such little minor league experience, but he has turned things around and shown good upside over the past two weeks. In his last 11 games, Smith has gone 11-for-38 (.289) with three home runs, a stolen base and 8.8 fantasy points per game. He showed his high ceiling with a two-homer performance last Friday to earn 32 fantasy points against the Padres and has hit safely and earned at least five fantasy points in three of his last four games.
With a nice skillset that includes both power and speed, Smith brings a lot of long-term potential in the Astros outfield and is a strong salary-saver to consider in your outfield this Tuesday, as his Astros host Chris Bassitt ($9,000) and the Blue Jays.
