The NBA playoffs continue with three marquee matchups on Tuesday. Superstars across the league are taking the floor, including LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Pascal Siakam more than 20.5 points
Nearly everything went right for the Pacers during Saturday’s 117-98 blowout win over the Bucks. That includes the play of forward Pascal Siakam, who dropped 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting. It was another great performance in a season full of them for the three-time All-Star. Through 78 games, Siakam has averaged 20.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting 51.9% from the field.
A gifted scorer on a high-powered offense is usually a recipe for success. That’s especially true in this matchup for Siakam; he’s posted 24.2 points during his last five outings vs. Milwaukee. In four of those games, the 31-year-old has recorded at least 25 points. Given how much the Bucks have struggled recently on defense, it’s difficult to see this trend changing. Another terrific showing from Indiana’s power forward is likely on Tuesday.
Damian Lillard more than 2.5 three-pointers made
At long last, Damian Lillard has returned. A blood clot has kept the future Hall of Famer out of action for over a month. During that time, the Bucks have turned to a variety of names in their back court, but none have made a major impact. Milwaukee’s offense, following Saturday’s 97-point showing, clearly needs its point guard running the show. This season, Lillard put up 24.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game.
The signature skill throughout Lillard’s illustrious career has been his shooting. The 34-year-old connected on 37.6% of his 9.0 three-point attempts this season. In seven of his last ten games vs. Indiana, the veteran has hit at least three shots from deep. In a contest that might see plenty of possessions for each team, Lillard should have opportunities from beyond the arc.
Isaiah Hartenstein more than 19.5 points + rebounds
The Thunder delivered one of the most dominant wins in NBA history, beating the Grizzlies 131-80 on Sunday. Six different Oklahoma City players logged at least 12 points in less than 30 minutes, including Isaiah Hartenstein. The center, signed this summer from the Knicks, has impressed during his first campaign in OKC. This season, he’s put up 11.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 58.1% from the field.
Those statistics are somewhat inflated, as fellow big man Chet Holmgren missed most of the season due to injury. However, Hartenstein logged 11.6 points and 9.0 rebounds in 20 games played alongside Holmgren. The seven-footer has thrived in this matchup, reaching 21 points + rebounds over his last five meetings with the Grizzlies. Assuming Memphis keeps tonight’s game somewhat close (no guarantee), I-Hart should have enough minutes to reach this total.
LeBron James more than 23.5 points
It was not a banner Game 1 for LeBron James. The Timberwolves held LBJ to 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists on 44.4% shooting. The four-time MVP has been amazing once again this season, making Saturday’s performance an unpleasant surprise. Through 70 games, the 40-year-old has averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists.
Minnesota has tenacious wing defenders and an elite rim protector, making this a brutal matchup for anyone. Still, it’s only a matter of time until The King finds some success on offense. In 12 of his last 20 meetings with the Timberwolves, LeBron has notched at least 24 points. Ultimately, it’s difficult to envision two straight subpar performances at home for an NBA legend.
Julius Randle more than 4.5 assists
A 117-95 win for the Timberwolves on Saturday wasn’t what most analysts were expecting. Minnesota’s tenacious defense gave the Lakers major fits, while its offense thrived under the leadership of Anthony Edwards. However, if the underdogs want to pull off a second straight road win, they’ll need more from Julius Randle. The two-time All-NBA selection had a middling performance in LA, posting 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.
‘Playoff Randle’ might be real, but that doesn’t mean he’ll always struggle in big games. If anything, a lack of shooting confidence will cause the forward to serve as more of a playmaker. This season, the Lakers have allowed 27.3 dimes per game to opponents, ninth-most in basketball. In 12 of his last 20 appearances, Randle has tallied at least five assists. Look for the 30-year-old to make a concerted effort to find his teammates in this one.
Luka Doncic less than 46.5 points + rebounds + assists
LeBron is poised for success as a scorer, which might limit contributions from his teammates. Nobody would be more impacted by a dominant LBJ game than Luka Doncic. The Slovenian superstar had a solid Game 1, delivering 27 points and eight rebounds on 12-of-22 shooting. Saturday marked another terrific performance in Purple and Gold for Luka. Since joining the Lakers, he’s averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists over 28 games played.
As great as Doncic is, and will be going forward, he may need to take a back seat tonight. I’m expecting a vintage James stat line, but it’s difficult to believe this ‘Wolves defense will allow both stars to dominate. Luka has failed to reach 46.5 points + rebounds + assists in three of his last five games. Add everything up, and it looks like a fade for Los Angeles’ other superstar.
